Short answer - Yes, get 10's and no fuss with HPF, you can get by with a little compression if needed, unless you really want that headache of combating the farting all the time, which will be different in every room...

Compression will typically not help because speakers fart out on transients, but a 0 attack LIMITER will definitely help as it will allow you to shave off the most offending transients. I cannot believe nobody suggested this.

Also a HPF is literally one resistor and capacitor. Hell, some bass guitars have a HPF circuit alongside LPF (usually known as tone control).

A resistor and a capacitor will not give you 24dB/octave rolloff of low frequencies. If you have r&c circuit selected for about 300 Hz, I suppose it would cut off some lows,
but the Series 3 HPF gives you the option to change LF cutoff. It's very convenient for some rooms.

Not really. 10's can certainly produce very low, useless mud frequencies.

While playing in the style of what op mentioned? I think not. It's way easier to roll off lower frequency with the right application, in this scenario smaller speakers would be better suited.
