Double Bass Do gut strings need care if kept in tha drawer?

I was given 2cnd hand D&G strings and I am still not sure to put in on. Is it good enough to leave them just as they are what’s the best practice to keep them operative? The climate is pretty humid in the mediterraneo.

They will last for years with no care other than keeping them away from creatures that might eat them.

And moisture. Most gut strings come in a paper envelope, I put them in their envelopes into a plastic zip bag all together and keep them in a drawer. Gamut comes in a plastic zip bag with a paper insert.
