Do Headphones Shut-off Your Speaker?

Hey,

I've been having some trouble hearing myself when practicing with my band and I was wondering how to help me hear myself play. I was thinking about buying a set of headphones that plug-in to my amp. If I did that would it send all the sound into the headphones or would it send sound to the amps speaker and the headphones. Also, if there are any other solutions that would be easier/cheaper than getting headphones, please feel free to tell. Thanks.

By the way, I'm using a Peavey TKO 115 Combo Amp(75 W I believe)

Yes..plugging in headphones shuts off the speakers.

Sounds like you need more power.

Cut your lowest frequencies a bit and boost your mids. It may help you cut through more and hear yourself more clearly. Best part is it's free

Simple solution would be to tilt back or elevate the amp. or sit in front of it. If you can't hear yourself at rehearsal, what happens at gigs?

I've just recently started playing in bands(a friend asked me to join his band) so I haven't come to that yet.

I did play at a school talent show but they supplied the amps.

If you're gonna play a gig I'd just pray that they have a PA to push you through.

Or borrow someones larger rig.

I mean my band says my amp is loud enough to cut through but I'd just love to be able to hear it more in practices at least.

Elevate the combo closer to ear level. It might be as simple as all of your sound going right through your legs into your bandmate's ears, but largely bypassing your own. Also +1 to cutting deep bass and boosting mids. I made it through an outdoor gig on an Ampeg 15" combo with no PA support this way...just barely, however
