Do I need a compression pedal for playing live?

good point. haha. fair enough, i've had my fun. we're iced in in north texas, so i'm feeling a bit stir crazy. maybe that second cup of joe wasn't a good idea?

Yeah, I was just about to ask how you folks are doing. Temps here are well above freezing but it appears as more than a handful of friends got hit hard. My thoughts are with you.

thank riis! lots of people are without power. i've been much more fortunate. those of us who know better are staying in and fine. just coping with a little "cabin fever". a few people were a bit more stubborn and i've been seeing the reports on the news. feel bad for their families around the holidays. it's not worth it fellas! get some hot chocolate and stay on talkbass!

We even got a little ice in San Antonio last night.. I just joined talk bass and what an interesting conversation this has been to read. I am wondering about compression, so I appreciate the mention of bongomania. I am going to research it. Have a great Sunday.

Welcome to TB! Bongo's reviews have been spot-on IMO and guided a handful of my purchases. Same holds true for john k (OD pedals), and Jimmy M (all things Ampeg). There's a lot of talent lurking about the forums.

It's getting pretty cold here as the day develops. I even had to put a pair of pants on when I went outside for a cigarette. As I understand it, the local civic league has meetings about me.

It's really cold out here in San Diego (I'm not at Groom this weekend) - we barely made it into the 60s today, and it might get into the 40s tonight. I don't think I'll be going anywhere tomorrow. I had to wear a long-sleeved shirt when I went to Price Club this afternoon.

Ok, I am back. I am almost really starting to enjoy the ridiculing of myself. It's almost like the Blues Brothers playing behind chicken wire. Maybe I have a self mutilation fetish?

I'm sure Bungermania is getting compressed right now.:spit:

Has anyone ever recorded a fart? Do I need an MXR-M80 DI, a fuzz pedal, or reverb for more bowl echo?

By the way, I am a GOLD member plus for AAA. So I have got that going for me.

For me ill use compression in the studio or even at home but never live. The sound guys normally add compression resulting in over compression.

I would just turn it off when going through a board with compression if I had no choice in the matter. I would prefer to use my comp instead of the FOH as I can control the settings. A chat with the sound guy before the show always helps to see if there is some flexibility.
