Hello, soon i'll get a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 sound card. Do i need a DI box or (even better?) a preamp? I was thinking for an Eden WTDI.
I'd like to not spend more than the cost of the Eden. All i want is a decent sound.
I have a passive bass with bassline pickups.
Thanks

you don't NEED a DI before the Focusrite, you can go straight into it. But obviously to tweak your sound if you are not going to use VST amp models after tracking, then a nice DI like the MXR M80 DI+ or a Samsamp or the Eden will colour your tone.

I've used the MXR and the Samsamp BDDI and like them both. The Sansamp can get a lot of different sounds out of it,once you come to terms with their mid scooping EQ method.

you will get an okay sound plugging your bass directly into the scarlett. with a good DI box you will get a better sound. might as well try it without first and see if you like it without a preamp / DI before you spend the money for one...
