Do I need to get a set up on my precision ?

Hi there, I would really appreciate some advice on my 4 month old precision and what I should expect with it ... I love the bass and its playability, tho I do feel that there is some noise on finger take off and playing some faster types of bass lines. My question is - is that standard and normal for a precision and will get lost in the band mix, or does the above suggest that the fret heights are incorrect etc. ? Opinions, thoughts, suggestions all gratefully received ! Regards, Pja7oaks UK

Finger noise is a technique problem.

Uneven frets can causing string buzzes but will not cause finger noise. If that is the sound it could be a set up problem. Or it might require a fret dress.

The two sound different.

Respectfully submitted.

I have to agree with 202dy. But I would add that if it's new you should get a really good tech to set it up. most often basses are not well set up when they leave the factory, so a good setup is beneficial. Then you won't be guessing if you have any setup issues.

...I don't think your problem has to do with a setup, but it's never a bad notion to have one done... get the tools from StewMac, do a little research, and you can make it happen yourself... it ain't rocket science...

A lot depends on what this actually means. It sort of sounds like you're describing a failure to mute the strings you're not playing. Even an experienced player will sometimes have to relearn this on a different instrument, such as when picking up a 5-string for the first time.

But perhaps this isn't what you mean at all. Hard to tell.
