Do I really need a new rig??

.
I have a Peavey Max 115 combo, its the newer 300 watt version. Its light powerful and sounds great.

Cheers!
Keep your 15” combo. Gig it with your future band for a while.
The deals will still be out there still when you’re ready to make your rig less of a schlep. 50 pounds for a combo really is not bad. Save the money. Grab a new strap or new strings or spend the money going to a binge of local live shows and connect with your scene. You’ll be in a band in no time.

Also, 15’s are the best so there is that. 12”s are a bit of a downgrade.

Thanks guys, wow. Lots of replies! I am impulsive and having slept on it, here is my decision:

I'm going to pass on the Aguilar as I can't try it first. He is far away and has no cab to test it.
800$ is still a lot of money to spend on something that probably won't sound way better than the Peavey....it really does sound very good.
It was mainly for the portability and the fact I don't own a cab.

I spoke to the guy with the cab/Genz Benz and he is very nice. He's only 15 minutes away.
I'll go look at it and play it.
If I really like it, 600$ is a great deal as I can probably get 300$ for my Peavey.
But, as a lot of folks mentioned, I should wait until I am in a band.
Plus, I haven't even played the Peavey in a few months. I'll dig it out this weekend and try it out with my Birdsong.

Damn you GAS!!!!!

Thanks again everybody!

My 2¢...

I'm a believer in two woofers. Why? Mainly because a vertical stack gets one closer to my ear so I can hear myself better.
A single cab can also work, if you tilt it back with your own block or a purchased device. You can also fabricate or get a metal thingy to keep a head from sliding off if needed.
My least fav is a single driver cab set up flat on the floor.

There are sonic benefits to the dual woofer use. First, typically you will now be running 4 ohms, and that gets more power out of most ss heads and doubling your cone area adds even more SPL as well. Also, two woofers couple their lower frequencies for added bass response.

musicopratik, a rehearsal studio in verdun, had a used aguilar head for sale a couple of weeks ago. they have aguilar rigs you can try and so does moog audio on st laurent.

Thanks, I'm West of Montreal and don't get in that area very often. The construction/traffic is a nighmare.
Do you remember how much they were asking?
No one really commented on the price of the Aguilar, 450cdn. Is that good? The cheapest on reverb is 525$ US, which is 700$ cdn. Maybe I should get the aguilar, if I don't like it I could probably get 400$ US on Reverb and make a profit.

I think it was $650. It was a Tone Hammer, but I don’t remember if it was the 500 or the 700 model. I have practice tomorrow, so I’ll check and let you know.

I'll do sg weird and tell you not to buy another amp until you really need it. You never know what gear will be available in the future.

Or at least buy used so you don't loose money when you sell it.

So I spoke to the guy with the cab. He also has a Genz Benz shuttle 9.0 he would sell with the speaker for 600$ for the pair which seems like a really good deal.
Is the aguilar worth 150$ more than the Genz Benz?
Let's not forget the importance of "The Cool Guy Factor"! Let's face it - an Aguilar head and Barefaced cab has tons more mojo than Peavey.
My understanding of mojo is the opposite. American made Peaveys have so much classic mojo that it surely carries over to the newer stuff.... ;)

Save some more money and get a Mesa Subway rig. May I suggest the D-800 and 115 cab (for starters). It will last you a long time and the sound, tone and craftsmanship are unbeatable (IMO).
This is exactly what I'm doing. I just ordered a used 1x15 for a good price ($600!) and I'm keeping my eyes open for a D-800+. I'm been doing a ton of research lately and I'm putting my money into Subway series. I'm so excited.

Good for you. I've researched my tail off also and I'm convinced that this is the route I'll go. Selling off guitar equipment and bass equipment to fund a new Mesa Subway rig. It's expensive but I am confident in the quality and craftsmanship Mesa provides. Going to get the 115 cab and then, most likely, the D-800. Let me know how you like your "new" rig. No doubt I will read a fantastic report!

I owned Peavey gear a long time ago and it was good for what it cost. When I became more successful as a musician I bought other brands of amps that cost more but were clearly better and had a lot more Cool Guy Factor

$350 CAD is a steal for any Barefaced cab, even if you don't need it. Bonne chance!

Its not bad, but I searched and they all sell for around 350 pounds in Europe.
I am still tempted by the Aguilar head as I think I could get 400$ US for it and actually get to try it out, and still make a profit if I don't like it.
Cheers
