Do I repaint a "magic" bass?

Let it be. Looks better than some factory Fenders IMO. Plus it looks like it's got some of that relic started everybody is so crazy about.
Yeah really. I was expecting this thing to look much worse. Like, punk kid tried to graffiti swear words on it worse. I think the daphne blue paint looks cool, even if it was poorly done. Just continue with the relic look.

i was expecting unicorns and clouds and stuff. it looks fine. just beat it to death and give it more character.
Leave that thing alone. Or if you would rather not, you can send it to me and I will fix it all up for free. 
If that is what you consider ugly then I must have bad taste because that is the color I want to paint MY jazz. It just gives me some ideas for the neck I want for it. And possibly putting cream colored pickup covers on.

Lol... I like that... maybe I'll name it Susan. OK, the funny part about this bass which you can't see in the pics is that the neck pickup route appears to have been done with a dremel...
As far as resonance, it's certainly good, but I have another bass which clobbers them all in that department. I'd say the main thing is the tons of low mids it seems to push, that has really got me considering selling the rest of my jazz basses and just keeping this... I've never really liked the sound of jazz basses anyways - just the shape.
Since the paintjob was done pretty bad (hard to see the runs on the corners in these pics but they are there, orange peel is pretty obvious... it's a white base, 1 coat daphne blue, nitro) and the polish job was poor as well, I went with doing a 'relic' build... that meant I tossed the hardware into a box with some 5% acid solution next to it for a day, scuffed up and yellowed the pickguard, and generally used anything that looked beat up in my collection of parts.
Anyway... pics:
I wont lie, it doesnt look poorly done, but it looks much better than I expected. I say keep it.
OK.... well... I gave it some thought... I changed the pickguard and now I can deal with it... I guess the tortoise was just making it look too honky for my tastes... Also took my 'main' jazz bass and (very, very carefully!) re-routed the bottom of the neck pocket down approx 2mm to remove HEAVY overspray and tighten up the surface... anyone who says (a lot) of paint doesn't matter in the neck pocket is crazy... the fundamentals are much stronger in that baby now... more zingy than this beater one due to the dense fingerboard wood and slightly thinner body profile, I think, but the important thing is that they now both produce a good tone. So I will keep both, and not bother with a repaint.

I gotta say I am not happy with the pickguard change, but to each his own. I will have my Daphne Blue and tort jazz soon enough.
I love the Daphne blue and while I agree the white looks better than tort, what you really need is a white pearloid guard. I have the Daphne blue/pearl combo on my fender hoppus sig and I really like it.
