You're way better than I was when I was 13, so I have to say no, you don't suck. Keep at it strong and in a couple years, you'll be better than I am at the age of 30! (I'm still not that good! *cries*)

While the video/bassline that you play doesn't show amazing technical talent, I'm quite impressed how well you keep time (for the first 20 seconds that i saw, anyways)
But seriously, this is the internet. People who are never gonna get laid need SOMEWHERE to vent.

This is a good point (a good post entirely, but that's beside the point
). Being able to read at all puts you lightyears ahead of 90% of the "musicians" out there. That's not to say that you can't be a musician without being able to read, but it sure helps, and a pretty good percentage of the d-bags out there who make comments like the guy did on your vid can't read music. Most of them also play guitar. Alone. In their bedroom. ...Ahem.
And they're lame.
The video was good. I'd never heard the song or band before, but I was digging it. Keep up with it
I think you are pretty good, never heard the bass line or anything, but i didn't hear anythng way out of line. You definetly don't suck.
I, on the other hand, have an inability to make a good video. I expect people to tell me I suck on youtube. I play way better when I am just practicing than when I am trying to do a video. People have complemented me when I play at music stores etc, so I know I can't be too bad. I guess what I am trying to say is that even if you suck in a video doesn't mean you actually suck..

You did a great job and don't let people on youtube be the yardstick by which you measure yourself. There's a couple of youtube videos of me (I didn't post them, however) and half the comments are about how funny my hands look.

your alot better then what i was at 13, and the problem with youtube is that alot of the other people commenting are other 13 year olds.
I think If a bassist feels using a pick, thumb or pizz for a song is the right tone & it sounds good then that bassist is Right.
I wish I could use the pick half as good as I do with fingers & thunb. ( really I do)
I never negativly comment on a bassist choice of playing style when it serves the song & band well.(oh this also goes for using roots&5ths to 8ths)

Thats my fav part. My sister had never heard me play before and she was curios if i was good or not. So i started to play club foot and she was just kinda, "ok, pretty cool." But as soon as i got to that solo, she was like "dang, Derek, you're beast!"
