do TB threads ever send you down a musical rabbit hole?

Los Angeleez
i was reading a thread where someone mentioned arlo guthrie's alice's restaurant. a few minutes later i found myself wanting to hear "ring around the rosy rag" from that album, headed off to amazon music and after listening to that song, i wanted to hear the motorcyle song and then i found myself listening to a song i barely remembered from that album, highway in the wind.

it's now later, and i've listened to a variety of arlo guthrie songs including the original version of alice's restaurant, which somehow lead to city of new orleans, coming into los angeles, and after lots more, i ended up with another ballad from alice's that i barely remembered.

and it's memory lane for me, giving me chills and filling me with nostalgia and more.

does this sort of thing happen to you from a thread that wasn't even about a song or artist?

Absolutely. All the damn time. Somebody uses a (mostly 'obscure') piece as an example, I'm right there researching! And in turn, absorbing.

As a somewhat lesser example, I stumbled upon a thread that was panning/condemning RHCP's 'I'm with you' album. It wasn't long before I was spinning that album, remembering all the things I LOVE about it, and saying "You guys are NUTS! I seriously don't understand how BASS PLAYERS don't adore this!"

Its sometimes just fine to end up in a musical rabbit hole :)

I thought you meant: the OP asks a question and within 10 posts the replies start following the guy who posted "I don't know about that one, but this one is..."
Then maybe 15 posys later, after discussing the off-topic thing, something entirely new is added to the thread and THAT topic is even farther from the OPs question.
Ya, a few rabbit holes in this sense if the phrase.

Don't get me wrong, I loved it...Sesame St and the Muppets had some awesome musical moments...Animal and Rita Moreno's version of Fever is a particular favourite...

It's just hard to explain to a casual observer...:D
Sheesh, give Floyd some credit - he didn't overplay like Animal! :D

Oh, Yeah! I frequently get into one song and spend lots of time listening to other songs connected along the way. I think it's great. I either hear songs I am familiar with or get turned onto songs and bands I have never heard before all thanks to TB posters.

Because I am from the Chicago area I am honor bound any time City of New Orleans appears on the internet to mention that while Arlo (and others) made a fine recording of it, Steve Goodman wrote it. Some are confused on that point, some are not, I'm not accusing you of either one!

And now back to your regularly scheduled rabbit holes....

Not very often. But every now and then something peaks my curosity. As an example, there was a thread a month or so ago where the subject was something to the effect of the down-surge of musicians in the younger generation. In that thread someone posted a video from the School of Rock. To this day I still find myself caught down this rabbit hole. It just warms my heart to see the younger generation so involved the the art of music. Not to mention the talent that these young folks possess. You also cannot cannot forget about the dedicated parents and teachers. With that said, I'll post another of their videos in hopes that others will follow me down this rabbit hole!
