Do ya wear it high, or sling it low...?

I like playing with the body centered on my belly when standing. When I'm sitting, I rest the bass on my left leg with the neck quite high (from what I've been told.) It's the most comfortable position for me that I've found. I'm right handed, BTW.

i use my bass with the string at a waist/front pockets-ish height most of the time. but sometimes the bassline i'm playing is tricky to play at that height, so i found a little trick with the strap(jazz bass model basses are easier to use this). when i do it the bass stays about 7-8 centimeters higher than normal. this way I can quickly change between both.

high or low, it doesn't matter, as long as you can play well and confortably

I'm also a former low-slinger (actually not ridiculous low...just medium-low), but I broke my left wrist skateboarding when I was about 17. I used a channel lock pliers to rip the cast off about 3 weeks before the doctor said to, and it never healed right. I can barely twist it 35º clockwise. Man, that quack doctor messed me up!

Anyway, when I got back into playing a few years ago, my teacher, Paul Norris, brought it up to about where the lower horn is just above my belt. I also angle it up to about 30º from horizontal. I'm not crazy about how it looks, but I can play with much more dexterity and far less pain.

If I gotta choose, I'd rather play well than look cool anyday...
