When I gigged as a bassist I only had one bass at my disposal, so no.
Now that I have 3, I would probably take at least 2 with me. My Rivoli for the songs that need tone, and J for the growl. Still bonding with my P (eeeew!), but I could see taking it with me. Couldn't see the need for the P J and Rivoli though.

The intent of denigration was inaccurate and most certainly an infernce. It was a humorous comment and nothing more.
LOL...it's very obvious you were being derogatory about age. There's no way you can backpedal your way out of that. Claiming it was an attempt at humor does not change the fact that it was derogatory.

I'm old enough that I can play along with humor and not as an attempt to be derogatory. I'm not back pedaling at all. Your assumption of intent is just that, an assumption.

A reference to a number of years of experience is nothing more than just that. You calling it the "grumpy old man card" and "can't teach an old dog new tricks" remarks are just more examples of your deliberate derogatory intent.
My new trick was not taking a backup since I carried a backup for decades and never, ever needed it, so I stopped wasting time and energy carrying a backup.
If I were trying to denigrate you I would have approached it from an entirely different angle. But it's not my intent to denigrate. You don't know my intent. You intuition is miscalibrated and your sense of humor is lacking.
Your intent to denigrate was obvious and reinforced by your continued derogatory remarks. Your continued attempts at backpedaling will not work.

i actually have 20 basses at the moment. some are complementary, some are matching, and some are different. i definitely always bring more than one bass when i play, just to have a backup, but which ones i bring is decided by nothing more calculated than my mood at the time - i just bring whichever basses i feel like playing that day.

When I was last gigging, I always brought a fretted and a fretless, at least one of which was often a 5.
Boy I wish I did this past January. My band was in the semifinals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. About 1/3 into the set the intonation screw that holds the E string bridge saddle in place on my 1972 Jazz worked its way out and the saddle collapse, leaving me with no E string. Not a good thing when you play in a blues power trio, that E string is important! Got through the set but man I wish I had a backup! Lesson learned....should have brought my Fodera!
Back up bass...because stuff happens. Even a broken string can take 5-10 minutes to get back up to speed.
I flew VIP transport for six years. On VVIP missions we had a backup aircraft an hour behind us at all times.

i am going to "sort" of bring a backup to future gigs because my band recently started playing in a new tuning. I could always just tune up but i dont like the idea of increased tension and action height.
i would rather have two basses, that are ready to go in the correct tuning and use the "tune up" method as an absolute backup until our set list is all new material and i only need the 1 tuning.

I have a double gig bag specifically to make it super easy to always have 2 basses at every gig. In fact my amp, cables, spare tuner, tool kit and batteries all fit in the gig bag. My backup amp is in the car if I need it. I always bring 2 cabs and can finish a gig with only 1 if necessary.
A gig WILL NOT be canceled or cut short because of an equipment failure on my part. Complete refundancy on all equipment. Stuff happens but the show must go on!
