Do You Ever Break Strings??

Yes.

An E string no less.

All I did was mix a dose of inexperience with a dose of wishful thinking. A dash of overtightened tuner later, and, well, that.

You can read about it here if you're curious, and no, it probably wasn't the boiling that did it.

I have never broken strings while playing. I have broken strings cutting them for one bass then trying to string them on a different bass. They broke before they ever got in tune. I've learned my lesson though. I try not to change my strings once I have a set on the bass I am happy with. Two of my basses I'm happy with, one I'm not. It'll get new strings at some point and then it'll be years before I buy anymore.

The only times I've broken bass strings where when I was overdoing it with slap technique and cut the string too short to get a good enough wrap around the machine head. Bass strings are very high quality these days, especially from all the big players (D'Addario, GHS, Ernie Ball, Rotosound, etc).
