Do you find Lakland necks comfortable?

I've been playing a 55-01 as my main bass for the past 2 years, and for some reason, I haven't gotten 100% comfortable with it. It sounds amazing, but jut doesn't quite feel right.

I don't want to say it's bulky, but coming from my Elrick Evolution, it has been an odd transition. It's nowhere near as uncomfortable to me as, say, a Warwick, but something's not right.

Anyone else have a similar experience with Lakland's?

I find them very comfortable, although neck geometry is a very subjective thing. The one thing I appreciate about the lakland necks, apart from them "fitting" me is the consistency. Whether it is my JO5 or 55-02, or any any other lakie 5 I have owned...the necks all feel the same. I can't say that about some of the other brands I have played.

Correct me if I'm wrong here... but the 55-01 is pretty much the lowest end of the whole Skyline series, right? Not to say it isn't a good base, but it's the closest thing they have to "entry level" - So you're drawing a conclusion based on that one bass...

I have a US Lakland 4-94 that I bought used SOLEY because the neck was so freakin' great. I was NOT shopping for a bass, I was killing time... and this bass isn't even pretty (black body, blonde neck) - but man it plays itself. To me, the best thing, by far, about Lakland basses is how they play.

I believe the -01 series is the least expensive lakland, but what seperates it from the 55-02 is the electronics. I thought the necks and bodies were all the same in the 01 and 02 series (except of course for pick-up routing). Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Quality really isn't it - I've played 55-94's and felt the same way. It's just the profile. I'm horrible at explaining what it is I'm looking for, but I think what I would want would be something thinner from back to front.

Waiting for the Brown Truck here for mine to arrive in a few days - and then I can weigh in- I am anticipating being pleased. I have pretty big hands and play a 6 String with ease - after playing a friends Lakland - I was impressed with how it played.

Hmmm... Well, basses with "thin" necks are rare, or so I've found (I like them too). My Zon 5 is VERY thin and feels great... Zons seem to be out of 'fashion' these days, but I don't care... it sounds and plays great...

Have you played a Zon?

I've only played a couple of Laklands, but the necks were all nice- the neck on a Decade 4-string was one of the nicest necks I've every played, and I've been using Elrick e-volutions as my main basses for over five years. I believe all the ones I've tried were 4-strings though, so that may be an issue as some manufacturers have quite different specs for their necks depending on the string count. I sold a Zon 6-string mostly because I didn't like the really flat profile, but I loved the neck on a Zon 5 I recently tried.

I love Lakland necks myself, and it seems to be one of the big selling points for a lot of folks who play them. But, as was already said, tastes vary.
