Do you have recurring dreams?

I have two

The first one is of this old black woman. She's sitting on the porch of her old shack, which is held up by jacks. The place is surrounded by corn fields. There is an old tire hanging from a near by tree. She's sitting in a rocking chair, strumming away on her guitar.

The other is more of a nightmare. There is a man, he wears all black. His face is always in shadow, other than his bright grinning teeth and an eerie red glow from where his eye's should be. He is always chasing me, trying to catch me. He is cold. Evil. He terrifies me.

Reoccuring themes, yeah. Lots of dreams where I'm living in some huge house - different house every time, sometimes it's a dream house, other times it's falling apart; some times it's my house, other times I'm renting or living with someone else. Never any place I've ever lived in, visited, or even seen in real life. Very weird.

Other reoccuring theme dreams center around needing to use the restroom, wake up and yup, gotta go to the can...

As others have mentioned already, I have the school-related dreams pretty regularly - the exam is today, I haven't been going to class, I don't even know what room it is in, etc.

I also frequently dream that I'm out in public either buck naked or wearing a shirt but no pants. During these dreams, I often think "Is this a dream? I hope so, but it must not be or I would wake up right now."

And finally, I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet, the musician's nightmare: I'm on stage, the show is about to start, and I realize I'm holding the wrong instrument. "Wait! I don't play saxophone! I'm a bass player!"

This one seems to have happened at random intervals throughout my life and has actually progressed.
In the dream I usually wake up, lying in bed due to a sound of the front door or a window opening. I feel panicked and try to get up, scream, make some kind of noise but to no avail...I eventually wake up. It seems to have progressed in the past few years to hearing actual footsteps through my house into my room, to some weird shadow staring down at me from the foot of my bed. Finally I wake up, usually have trouble going back to sleep afterwards. Scares the bejesus outta me when it happens.

Tried explaining to my wife this is why I walk through the house every night and check all the doors and windows to make sure they are locked.

Have been out of school for 25 years, but I still have these dreams:

- It's back to school in September, and I don't have my schedule. I don't know where to go.

- A whole semester goes by, and I realize - I wasn't attending one of the classes. I'm going to fail.

- It's right before graduation time and I discover - I don't have enough credits.

- I have been out of college for years, and I discover - I don't actually have a degree. I never did enough credits to finish.

- I'm driving back to school in September, and I don't have a place to stay.

Ha. :p I have dreams like that all the time.

Except for the fact that this was my real college experience. :bawl:

I hate dreaming because when you want to sleep, you want to sleep. Dreaming is work. Next thing you know, I have to build a go-cart with my ex-landlord.

I dunno that I've ever had any truly recurring dreams but some themes remain the same, like every flying dream I've ever had has been more like swimming in air than flying.

Also I've had dreams where the whole day start almost start to finish happens and then I have to wake up and do it all over. I also set my alarm early on Saturdays so I can wake up and go back to be which usually results in a dream.

Lastly check out "waking life" its a "documentary?" on dreams, rather interesting...shot in trip O' Vision like that keanu reeves movie.

ROFL, The Stand? It's been a long time since I read that.

A couple of my dreams repeat itself over and over.

But what's funnier is that I may have different dreams but the locations are the same. They have real cities name but my mind "create" an all new city just for my dreams. The cities are usually very big, lots of details and always the same. Like if I dream I'm in Quebec, I'm not in the actual city of quebec, but the one my mind created, and when I dream that I'm in this city, it's always the same design coming back, every details at the same place.

I also have a really good memory of my dreams, I can tell them with lots of details, maybe that's the reason why it's always the same "created" cities whenever I dream.

I have this exact dream at least once or twice a year.

While I was with my ex-wife I soemtimes had this dream where I would randomly run into this girl I used to romp with. It would be at different locales, like once I was riding my bike on PCH and just decided to go down the cliff to the sand... there she was.

Another time I was at a different beach, running down a pier to a dockhouse or something. I ended up inside with a few of my friends. There were pteradactyls flying around outside.

I often end up in dreams where Im armed and near the beach. One time I was in a dream with my brother and friends, I ended up killing a dirty cop, who was having us dig our own graves, with a cinder block. Then I went home and was scared that I had killed a cop.

In a recent one i was at my friends house who lives across from where I lived with my parents. All of a sudden I started hearing bombs exploded in the distance and saw planes flying by. Then gunshots broke out nearby and I saw a tank rolling down my street firing mortars everywhere. I had to run to my mothers house to make sure she was ok. I sniped a few enemy soldiers from my old bedroom window. I think that was the same night i watched Rambo.

My dreams, while not exactly recurring, often have similar themes, at least the ones I remember.

Awesome. Thanks for posting that.

Ever play an RPG, or any video game for that matter all day on a lazy Sunday and then have a dream in the interface, I swear I've leveled up in dreams before.

Wierd thing: Me and my friends were playing this game all night and when we were sleeping one of my friends mom came in and she said we were talking to each other like we were the people in the game, tho none of us remember having any dreams.

I used to have this dream every halloween night except this year: Me and my "friends" (4 of us, only one I actually know, the other three would change in look every year but would always do/say the same things) were running through my neighborhood at night. And there are these plants that get in garages and thrive there and from there they over run the house and then attack people on the street. But you can get away from them by getting in a garage that's not filled with plants, but once you get in there you are safe no plants can get in the garage you're in. And we are running trying to find a garage not filled with the plants. But then we see that all of them are occupied by the plants. And then my "dad" 's (doesn't look like my dad in real life, nor is it said that he's my dad) face forms outta clouds and says 'it's over, you're done for' and plants start creeping out of the garages and surround us. Then I wake up

Same dream, same thing happens. And what's wierd is the stuff I know about the dream even though it was never said. Like if I go in the garage with the plants I'll die, or that the guy formed in the clouds is my dad.

I've never been scared by it, really interested in it every year I've had it. I started having it when I was 4 I think and I'm 14 now.

I've always wanted to go to a dream doctor (or whatever) just to see what they'd say about it

As a kid I had dreams that I would sleeping in my room at the time. And some bizarre tiny man would come in my room and like run tests on me and then I would try to yell for help only to not be able to yell at all. It was pretty odd, and then after moving from that house I had it again but this time in a new room and at a new house. It was pretty interesting.

Ok here’s a good one and it spawned from reality. Back in 2003 I was lying in bed and as I laid there I kept hearing these questionable foot steps. At first I thought it had to be coming from a neighboring apartment. Then I herd a foot step that was undoubtably in my apartment my adrenalin went into effect and I found myself ducking around every corner in my place wielding my big buck knife. I looked in every room and found no one. Then I walked back into my living room and noticed the broken glass from where they had shattered my window. I looked at the door and it was cracked open. Someone had definitely broken into my apartment. I then looked down and around at all my basses, then at the money I had laying on the coffee table, it was all still there. I sat on my couch half naked buck knife in hand and didn’t move till the sun came up like six or seven hours later. No one ever came and I never got any closure as to why this person broke in, turned on all the lights, walked around, never came downstairs where the bedrooms where and then left in the nic of time before I got up there. After that I let it go and never gave it much thought until several months later. I had just moved into a new place. This was when I started having my first and only recurring dreams to date. The dreams would basically play out just like that night except I would wake up to this person walking around in the apartment I was currently living in and my weapon was always something I had in reality, these dreams where always very vivid and realistic. I would wake from them, heart pounding, adrenalin pumping, FREAKING OUT!!!! This continued for a little over a year and through three places. It was when in the third place that they finally came to an end in one of the most amazing dreams I have ever had. It started off as the first one I had since moving into a quite large house in the country. I woke up to the sound of my front door being kicked in. I reached for a 3' pry bar I had sitting in the corner of my room and off I went walking around my house looking for the intruder. I got to the end of a long hall through the center of my house and then realized that the way my house was designed, they could have walked a circle around me and there was no way I could determine that I was alone in the house. Then the dream changed and I found myself staring out a window looking for the intruder outside. I looked down at my hand and saw that I was holding a gun. I thought, I don’t own a gun, this is that dam dream again! I became lucid and then proceeded to have some pretty amazing and vivid sex before finally losing it and waking up. Since then I have never had that dream.
