Do you have recurring dreams?

As a kid I had dreams that I would sleeping in my room at the time. And some bizarre tiny man would come in my room and like run tests on me and then I would try to yell for help only to not be able to yell at all. It was pretty odd, and then after moving from that house I had it again but this time in a new room and at a new house. It was pretty interesting.

did he ever show you his space ship.

:D

I've had the same nightmare for years and years, that I'm trying to get home one evening, and there is a tornado off in the distance. I quickly turn onto a different road, and there is a tornado on that road. And another. And another. Not a fun dream at all.

And the I'm-still-in-high-school thing. Other than that, they're usually pretty random.

This would have been the perfect opportunity for you to become lucid in your dream. I cant easily become lucid, but typically if i am having a very horrifying dream, your mind recognizes that you are in a dream, and typically choose to wake up. Instead of actually waking up, recognize that you are dreaming, and continue with the dream! Another reason this would be particularly effective with this dream, is that there is a technique of determining if you are dreaming. If you are not sure if you are dreaming, try to turn on/off a light switch. If you are in fact dreaming, the light switch will have no effect on the current luminosity.

Neat personal story about lucid dreaming.

My school's performing arts building is across the street from the main campus. Now there's a walk way where the students have the right of way all the time and the cars stop, but that doesn't always happen, and infact I was almost hit by a car that didn't stop. So anyways, in my dream, I'm walking to class, when all of a sudden, my feet just don't work, I'm rooted in place in the middle of the street, while a semi is barreling down on me, and all my friends are yelling at me to move. One of my friends was a kid I hadn't seen in forever, and that's when I realized it was a dream, and instead of waking myself up, I started lucid dreaming again, and my feet could move. But I stayed there, and let the tanker pass through me. It was a phenomenally odd experience, because I could feel the gas being wet and the engine being warm, and all that stuff, like some one sent you through a quiznos grill then doused you with water in about 1 second. After that I started to fly around and stuff, get a bird's eye view of what was going on, but my body was still there in the middle of the street. It was pretty weird.

Regarding recurring dreams: I used to have one when I was a kid, like 8-10ish, and thank God I don't get it anymore, cause it supremely freaked me out. Basically the dream was one where I am walking up to an old like Louisiana Bayou shack with a pristine white picket fence. I'd walk through the gate, and then everything would turn to white, and blue balls would start falling all around me, the ground would shift, and I couldn't keep my footing. Finally after this went on for what seemed like 20 minutes in the dream, I'd see an opening, and make a mad dash for it, but I'd have to crawl through it, and once I got like half way through It would close up, and kill me.

At that point I either woke up or didn't, it seem like it was about 50/50. If I didn't wake up, I was instantly transported to this place above and to the right of my body, looking down on it, and it was DEATHLY cold. And all I could do was look at it.

That dream freaked me out so damn bad, and I had it at least once every 1 month for a good year or so. One week I had it twice in a row, and was in tears in the morning when my mom woke me up to go to school

I only really have one recurring dream. And I had it again today. to make this make sense you have to know a couple of things. 1.) When I was stationed in San Diego for school in the Navy. The main story on the news, every night for weeks was a guy who had been pulled over for a no-biggie thing like a bad taillight while vacationing in LA, and promptly arrested for deserting from the Navy. They sent him to the brig at San Diego, cut his hair back to recruit standards, and were keeping him in the brig until they figured out what to do with him. They had figured out the first day that he'd never joined the Navy. He'd served in the Army in Viet Nam and been steadily employed ever since he'd come back. But someone had stolen his identity, enlisted in the Navy, and then changed their mind and deserted. They knew he was innocent the first day. But he was in the brig at least for several weeks before I transferred to the other side of the country and never heard about him again. He might still be there for all I know. 2.) My father in Law went into the National Guard as a private and got out as a captain. some years later, a few hundred guys records were destroyed in a fire. His was one. The Department of the Army decided to arbitrarily assign various periods of remaining enlistment to everyone whose record had been lost. The way they found out was when three guys in uniform showed up at my wifes house when she was a preschooler and took her dad away to serve another twenty one months. 3.) I had the weirdest military career path ever. I started out as an electronics technician and eventually lost a stripe for being on weight control for too long. Since everyone got E4 coming out of school, there would never have been an E4 opening to apply for/ So I would have spent my entire remaining enlistment as an E3. I requested an open rate transfer (Do they still have those?) expecting them to look at the money they'd spent teaching me electronics and give me an electronic job. (Radioman, Fire Controlman, something like that...) In stead they just looked at how wide my shoulders were and said "I bet you could carry a wounded marine." And that's how I became a Corpsman. 4.)I've basically only worked in medical capacities since I got out of the Navy. And 5.) I've been out of the Navy since May of 1988.

With that in mind:

Every once in a while I keep having a dream where I'm suddenly forced to go back in the Navy. I am basically snatched away from my current life. I can talk with my wife and family by phone but they're still here in Texas and I'm off somewhere else, most often Virginia. The Navy insists on using me in my previous job, the one that I haven't actually used the skills for since 1992. They also frequently try to insist that I conform to the same physical standard tests that I always had to so in the '80's. I'm 51 and fat now, with high-ish blood pressure and diabetes. Having to do PT runs in the rain nearly every morning qualifies this as a nightmare all on its own. Also the dream corpsmen don't want to accept me as a more experienced paramedic and object to me trying to maintain my actual current ordered medications because it's inconvenient for them to dispense them to me. But they won't let me have them to do it myself, either. I don't remember that happening in real life when I worked as a corpsman. But I was an FMF guy. I'm not sure who the mostly long forgotten douchebag was that has colored all the corpsmen in the dreams.

All the time.

Have been out of school for 25 years, but I still have these dreams:

- It's back to school in September, and I don't have my schedule. I don't know where to go.

- A whole semester goes by, and I realize - I wasn't attending one of the classes. I'm going to fail.

- It's right before graduation time and I discover - I don't have enough credits.

- I have been out of college for years, and I discover - I don't actually have a degree. I never did enough credits to finish.

- I'm driving back to school in September, and I don't have a place to stay.

...
…I used to have these same dreams that lasted about 10- 15 years after college.
End of the semester, had not attended any classes, term papers due, etc.
Within the dream, I would eventually start telling myself "...you have already graduated, WAKE UP"!

Another one that happened a couple times per year for a long while-
I'm driving in reverse with no brakes.

Yes a couple different ones. As a child I used to dream I was trying to navigate through a tangled tube; like noodles on a plate.

As an adult I've quit smoking a couple times and after not smoking for about six months I'd dream that I was lying on my back, my hand on my chest with a lit cigarette in between my fingers that was burned so far down it was about to burn me. The ash on the cigarette was so long if I moved my hand I was afraid the ash would fall; it usually woke me up. I'd have that dream for a couple weeks then it stopped. (last gasp of my body trying to get me to smoke? IDK)

I have four recurring dreams. I have each of these a couple times a year.

I'm about to graduate college, but find I haven't attended one important class all semester, and won't graduate. Classic anxiety/not prepared dream.

I need very desperately to walk somewhere quickly, like across town, but my legs just won't work correctly. It's a massive, draining effort just to take steps at all. My legs are heavy and uncoordinated.

I'm in my yard and a big passenger plane goes very low overhead. It goes just over the trees and out of sight, then there's a huge rumbling explosion.

Tornado dream much like when Dorothy sees the tornado out her window in the Wizard of Oz. Slow, huge, and menacing, might come our way, might not.

Yea all the time. I dream I get a running start and them jump and go flying hundreds of feet into the air. Every landmark I've come to know by my house, telephone wires, specific trees, the swamp, neighbor houses. I fly right over them all, and then I land, get up and look around, I usually hear whatever music my dad is playing one the stereo at this point, last time it was the new Jason isbel album. Then I start walking back home, at some point I wake up before I get back.

Back when I was younger I used to enjoy dabbling in certain... things. (think Scarface, sniff sniff) Ever since, I'll have dreams where I'll come into the possession of large quantities of "stuff," but I always wake up right before partaking. Well, except the last time...

A few weeks ago I had a dream that me and some old friends were at the grocery store buying some beer. While we were in line to check out, I notice Lindsey Lohan is right in front of us, holding a notebook. A few moments later, she places the notebook on the the counter, opens it up, and there's a "bottle of Coca Cola" right there in here notebook! She the pulls out a straw and begins "drinking her Coca Cola" right there in the check out line. This infuriates the cashier and he promptly grabs the notebook full of Coca Cola and tells her to leave. With surprisingly little resistance, she just leaves. After she is out the doors, the cashier hands me the notebook and asks me if I want it, and I accept. So then I busted out a straw from out of nowhere and start "drinking" Lindsey Lohans "Coca Cola" out of her notebook, right there on the counter where she had just been. I don't know if the cashier was just not a fan of Mean Girls or what, but he had no problem with us "drinking" right there, with a full line of customers behind us, mind you. Anyways, Lindsey must get her Coca Cola straight from Mexico (they use real sugar down there), because this stuff blew me away. Real grade A stuff. Well, after my thirst was good and quenched, and I had a mean caffeine buzz going, we finished checking out and walked to the car, where we took a few more sips of Me. Lohan's Coca Cola before I woke up.

What's weird is for about 15 seconds after waking up, I could still feel the buzz from the "caffeine" while I was still coming to terms with it all being a dream. Very strange feeling and disorienting, but I definitely felt it.

Disclaimer:
I in no way endorse the drinking of Coca Cola, and to any young people let this be a lesson that even if you try it a couple times, you're brain will never really let you forget.

Disclaimer #2:
Sorry about all the typos. Using a new phone with a very overactive spell check can be a battle sometimes.

It's funny because I have at least one bizzare school-related dream each month. It's kind of scary

I keep having dreams that I'm stuck in high school, even though I went to college already.
Pretty scary!

All the time.

As others have mentioned already, I have the school-related dreams pretty regularly - the exam is today, I haven't been going to class, I don't even know what room it is in, etc.

…I used to have these same dreams that lasted about 10- 15 years after college.
End of the semester, had not attended any classes, term papers due, etc.
Within the dream, I would eventually start telling myself "...you have already graduated, WAKE UP"!

I'm about to graduate college, but find I haven't attended one important class all semester, and won't graduate. Classic anxiety/not prepared dream.

EXACTLY!
I have this dream every night even though I graduated in 1997.
It usualy ends with the final dismissal bell. I race to meet everyone to say farewell, but I havn't even returned my text books or emptied my locker let alone not getting enough credits.

Upon waking, I feel like Im still attending after 18 effin years, and I should just drop out already.

I frequently have ones related to building construction jobs that have like 24/12 roof pitches on buildings miles off the ground, and hope I'm not going to fall off. They are just immense in size, and never ending ... at the end of the dream I can't ever hardly find my truck, and when I do - it won't start.

The way I think about it, most of my dreams are random brain-spewage. Sometimes I can find something that relates to an event during the day, and sometimes I can't. I have fairly interesting dreams with complicated plots and I remember them in detail when I wake up. This is not to say that all the details make sense, or even that all the plots make sense. However, if there is something that is COMPLETELY nonsensical or scary or I just don't like the way things are going, I summon the Dream Police and get them to fix it.

Ah yes, the Dream Police. There are two of them. They travel together. I've only seen one, and he looks like the old Hamburglar, which to me is sinister enough. The other I've never seen all of, but I know he's overweight, wears blue, and has red socks. He never speaks, but his laugh is obnoxious. I really don't like these characters, but they do serve a purpose: changing a dream that is starting to suck or that I otherwise can't stand.

The last time I saw them was a few nights ago. I was dreaming along, and Mr blastoff appeared wearing something he wouldn't be caught dead in. I told the Dream Police to get a clue and fix that, and the fat guy laughed his obnoxious laugh but I leveled a gaze at the Hamburglar and he said 'sorrysorrysorry' and rather promptly Mr blastoff was wearing something far more sensible. If they refuse to fix something that needs to be fixed, I'll threaten to wake up if they don't fix it. This generally does it. If not, I just wake up. That'll learn 'em.

If I have a dream that recurs, I figure it's something I need to look at when I'm awake. This has only happened in two episodes in my life, and the first time I worked through it myself and the second time I got professional help. The second episode went on for weeks and was disruptive to the rest of my life and I was having some trouble, when awake, deciphering whether the dream was a dream or reality. That scared the crap out of me, so I got help and the therapist said 'Duh.' I was thankful he didn't make me guess what it was about for a few weeks. I dealt with the issue and never had the dream again.

I got a dream job as an audio tech at a tv station when I was a kid, drank it away, and then dreamed about it for 7-8 years until I went back to school and got in another field at which point they stopped. At this stage in my like, even though I hardly golf at all anymore I have a dream with the recurring
theme of teeing off or playing some kind of shot where I'm restricted and can't take a full shot or the shot's flight path is restricted in some way. The other is about aquariums that I haven't fed the fish in for months, but the fish are still alive, well, and the water's clean.

I haven't had it in years, but when I was younger I had a recurring falling dream. I must have been old enough to have flown or seen images on the television for both farm fields filmed from a plane as well as footage of microscopic life, because....

In the dream I start out falling from way up high, and I can see patchwork farm fields down below. I fall and I fall and I fall and eventually I hit the ground, but instead of the dream ending or waking up, I just keep on going and everything looks like a film sort of like this:

I've also had flying dreams as well as episodes of sleep paralysis, which sucks just as much as you've read it does.
