Do you introduce band members on gigs?

I'd say don't do it. Not because it's stupid, more because, who cares? Nobody knows you, nobody is going to remember you... chances are your friends already know your band, so, yeah, who cares?

Another down side to the intro's, is that it, unfortunately, opens the door to an unwanted, monotonous, say nothing and go nowhere solo by each band member. I put this whole facade right up there with waterboarding.

We do... it's kind of an internal joke ---- we introduce by our personal website names... as silly as it is... we all see a spike in our web hits after

Longer shows, yes, along with 8 bar solos during an extended song. Short sets not so much, though we'll probably still introduce the band, sans solos.

I don't have a band, but I like when introducing members is somehow part of the show. Or some kind of introduction after opening act.

We've always done it. Although one time when I had just joined a jazz group, 2nd gig with them, the singer starts doing the intros and gets to me and says "And I have no idea what his name is"
Made me feel really welcome.

I see it during the encore sometimes and think that's a good spot for it, with maybe a little solo or riff or something after the intro. Guess it depends on if people like you.

You are right....it was stupid to put the word stupid there. Unfortunately I can't seem to edit it.

depends. if your the opening act.. put over the band not individual.. if you have a long set.. it breaks up the monotony.. solos to me are just time killers.. never been impressed.. by them.

We've pondered this and experimented with novel ways of introduction. Some notable ones are having each member introduce the next one until everyone has been introduced and has made one introduction. Having the introductions occur during the songs where we already switched instruments. This was fun because we'd introduce the drummer who had just a mic in his paws, hands, I mean. The guitarist was sitting at the piano and, well, you get it. Another fun way was to do it with charades, but that was only once at a bachelor party and it was, let's just say it wouldn't be appreciated at a family campground gig.

We don't make a big production out of it, but I do ask my front person to do a quick once around the stage during an intro or outro vamp at least once per set. It's out of respect for my musicians and how hard they work to put on a good show and be good entertainers, and I think the audience appreciates it.

EDIT: Private events are the exception.
