Yes, I bought it back in high school after hearing he was the guy to check out.
At the time I liked the funk stuff and thought he was fast but his tone and most of the music wasn't for me.
As I entered university for music he came up a lot more often. I felt intimidated by it. During second year I learned the head to Donna Lee and got some ideas from his solos and recognized he was good and not super human.
The summer after graduating I learned POT to prove that I could.
Since then my band has covered some of his songs: come on come over, used to be a cha cha, kuru and the chicken. My 16th note grove is not as steady as his but I havent been playing 8 hour gigs 7 nights a week since I was 18.
Learning to play donna lee really opened my jazz playing.
Learning POT was tones of fun and I learned so much about finger control, pressure and using different parts of my fingers to play.
To me Jaco started off as a novelty "bass" album then fear and resentment as I was intimidated by his playing compared to my own. now, finally I can move bass his horrible tone and hear the music he was playing.
