Do you own multiples of the same bass? Why?

I already own a Bongo 5 and every time I think I'd like to have another bass, I keep coming back to mine and falling back in love with it. I started with halfwounds and then moved to flats. I keep a modest action on the bass as well. But this leaves much to be desired for a nice bright and in your face bass with low action for noodling. So I've been periodically poking around the classifieds in my area and saw another Bongo 5 for cheap. I want to grab it and put some rounds on it and lower the action as much as possible to have that diversity of tone I already know I like. I'm not sure if this sounds crazy though?

But my question is, do you have multiples of the same bass for either different configurations, cosmetic reasons, fretted/fretless version, ... ?

I have multiples of certain models simply because I like them and can. I have small herds of Peavey T40s, Reverend R5Ls, Ibanez Artcode AFB200s, Epi Jack Casadays, Bass collections and SX Bass Maniacs, and a few others.

I have purchased multiple Warrior DM 5 string basses since November of last year and all have had the same pickups in them. They give me everything I could want tonally and look amazing.

I have two Rippers. The first is a '74 I'm the original owner of. It was my first "real" bass. I keep that one home, or for recording. After a few very bad experiences in recent years, I really don't like to take it to clubs anymore. The second one I picked up from the classifieds here. I got that one because I still like to gig a Ripper.

I also have two PBs. One us a Squier Matt Freeman I bought on a lark mainly to check it out. Turned out to be one if the nicer PBs I've played. The other is a Fender my lady gave me as a Christmas gift. That one I will never give up, for two reasons: (1) it sounds and plays beautifully; (2) it's from her.

I've got two Ibanez basses that have the same pickups in them & almost sound the same, if it weren't for the preamps being different & the body woods being different:

How I came about two so similar is just a coincidence...
I bought the BTB first & determined that it's almost too heavy for me, and when I checked the pawn shops, the SRX had turned up in the same pawn shop, and at a good price (almost 60% less than I paid for the BTB), and it's almost 22% lighter than the BTB

So I snagged it as well, and this week I have a SR400EQM on the way to A/B against the SRX. (which from my experience comparing the BTB to a SR300E, they sound similar)
The SR400 should be even lighter than the SRX & it has a mids knob, a coil tap switch, and modern features like the slip-over TRC & easy access battery compartment.
Oh, & it's got a quilted maple top. I try to tell myself looks don't matter, but TBH my primary bass hangs 4 feet from my face, so it does matter

I used to get a tiny rush from staring at my old RIC 4004 hanging there, and lamenting that I didn't have the skill to play it

add: I keep the BTB for down-tuning, usually in Eb, but sometimes D or D Drop C.
The SRX has Cobalt Flats, but the BTB just has D'Addario nickel rounds.

I used to have two Tune TWB63's.
The left one is fretless and walnut.
It was lined fretless.Is now unlined.

The fretted(right) is ovangkol.Was sold in 2014.

Two Bongos here... in my case an HS and an HH. I have two because I can, not because I need them. First came the Dargie Delight II (now with a clear pick guard), then when the Starry Night came out I new I had to get one, and the Bongo is my favorite MM bass. I just chose to get it in the HH to be different from the Dargie. They're a nice match for the MM Big Al and MM Reflex basses too.

Yep. Although they are all Ricks,none of them are exactly the same.
And like Jeff said,different strings!
(The walnut bass has Labella White coppercore tapewounds,the 2 custom Laredos sport RW Kalium sets,fretless Cii has Optima RB flats. And the 4000 has DR Sunbeams,but also sounds brilliant with a set of old Maxima flatwounds.)

My brother in law told me a story that his friend only bought black basses so his wife never knew when he got a new one nor would she know exactly how many he had. I wish he told me this story before my wife got into "the vault".
