I used to gig on New Year's Eve. Over the years, I have seen more people hosting parties at home and fewer people going out. My current band has a policy that we do not gig between Thanksgiving and New Year's. We gig so much during the year that we would rather spend the holidays with family.
I am filling in with a band that does original songs and some classic covers for a First Night Celebration in my home town. They have 5 venues with different live music entertainment all for free from 5 - 10 followed by fireworks. Thousands of people show up for it throughout the various sites.
I just got back from practice with the band I am filling in with for New Year's Eve and there was a message from another band asking if I could fill in with them for New Year's Eve.
I can't do both gigs and the second one is 90 miles away. If anybody needs a gig around Morgantown, WV with an oldies band, let me know.
I'll be playing the Clarendon Ballroom
in Arlington, VA with my band Lost in Paris. Any TBers come out and mention TB, I will personally give you a FREE high-five! What a deal!
Corporate Party Band Gig in Tulsa, OK. Busing from Nashville and returning the same night. Not only playing bass but Road Managing. Prayers are appreciated!
Made a killing over the years playing NYE. Don't fancy the aggravation anymore. This year a 5 pm show at a retirement home with the 4-man Chalmers Doane Trio and home to family.
My working band just retired, playing our last gig at the start of December. This will be my first New Years off in 5 years and only the 5th or 6th off in 40 years.
To top things off this is the first New Years my wife hasn't had to work in 4 years. We're going to hang around the house, put out some munchies and enjoy a couple of soda pops without having to worry how I'm going to get home or her having to be up at 4:30 in the morning for work.
Taking the rare NYE off this year. Had an opportunity to play for big bucks. My wife won. I have spent most of the past 38 NYE's as an entertainer. Some have been outrageous fun, some have been okay, some have been depressing. I'm gonna enjoy myself this NYE for sure.
Played last year, not this year, thankfully. Couldn't really enjoy the party last year because I don't like to drink then play.
This year my buddy is hosting a gigantic NYE party at his parents winery. A couple metal bands, some rock bands and a very talented reggae band are playing. Oh, and a keg of Drop Top!
This years ending will be good! I'm even single for it this time around!!
I play every nye chance I get. Bars packed, good money and exposure plus its a stupid holiday anyway. The only thing good about it is the bar scene so why not play it. This year will be a blast, bar is already calling us asking us to play it next year and we haven't played a note yet. So I'm glad most of you seem above playing it. More gigs for me. Lol.
Celtic crock at an Irish pub for a few years now. This'll probably be the last year as I heard the bar is closing (rent increases aren't controlled here).
