Do you play with both pickups wide open?

Passive Jazz, or Active Jazz, or Passive Soapbar, or Active Soapbar, of Jazz and Humhucker (passive or active), or Double Humbucker, or P/J?

Guess my answer depends on the bass I'm using and the song I'm playing. Who wants to be locked into a single tone?

Oh sorry, on a P-bass with split pups, the answer is ALWAYS yes, both sides of the pup balanced. No exceptions to this one.

I've mostly always got my bridge pickup on. The neck pup is sweet for chords though.

early 70s jazz, everything on always (nasty buzz if not... maybe i need better shielding.) but i really like the full-on thang for rock.

i often play with both on full. That is especailly the case with my Foundation when I want a funky finger tone and a killer slap tone.

Full on... started playing out in clubs and realised I didn't want to think about it... I wanted to turn the volume up and play and not worry weather my tone was slightly higher than I wanted or my p/u balance was incorrect...

SX Jazz 5-both pickups and tone on full,that's what I like about it.Tone cuts through and still has good bottom.

SX PJB 4-P pickup 100%,jazz pickup 70%.With both up all the way the lows vanish,back the j pickup off a little and it's just right.

Schecter Elite 5-mostly up all the way but I can use just the pickup volumes on this one to change the tone without using the EQ.

MTD KZ5-mostly the blend in the middle and vary it to change the tone.

when i was in my classic rock band i had both Jazzes vol pots wide open and adjusted the tone alot on diffrent songs.

Now i am in a more mod/rock band i leave everything wide open need more high end on the passive jazzes all the time.

Very seldom do I play with both pups full. Normally I tend to favor the neck pickup over the bridge (60 / 40).

Depends on the bass. I typically dial off my neck pickup on my Warwick Fortress because blending the neck and bridge equally tends to scoop my mids. I dial off the neck pickup on my fretless J-basses as well because i like a more Jaco-esque tone.

When I play a bass with 2 pickups or more, I always play it wide open. As a matter of fact, I have built 20 or so basses without any knobs at all on it. I like the sleek look and I love the idea that the bass is full on. This is what it is!

On my Kubicki I play both at full volume and occasionally knock the bias towards the bridge if I won't be slapping for a while. On my Hohner headless I play with the bridge pickup soloed, it has a lot more character like that!

I play with both pickups all the way. It just bothers me to think that there is a pickup there that isn't being used. That's why I have three P-basses, and only one Warwick.

That is the same way that I feel about it. I have a volume knob for both, then a blend knob, which is one of the greatest knobs ever. Anyway, I just feel weird knowing that both pickups aren't being used equally.
