Do you send back food?

So, I was out to eat the other day. I had this nice looking plate of alfredo pasta.

Im eating and its tasty but I just got this inclination. "I want to speak to the chef" I shouted for the whole restaurant to hear. "This is by far the best alfredo Ive ever dined upon."

So the chef comes out, and get this... its a woman! For reals! Lulz! Not just a woman, but a 63 year old woman!

She comes to my table and and says "Thanks for the compliment, but its nothing special really." To which I replied quietly... "I know, but I found a hair in it. I didnt want to alert anyone else."

She apologized profusely. I just said to her "Its alright Mom, dont let it happen again." I didnt leave a tip.

Semantical arguments are funny but common usage is compelling.

Common usage is relative and dependent on context.

When discussing national standards, state standards are "local".

When discussing state standards, municipal standards are local.

When discussing world standards, country of origin is local.

When discussing "national" health laws, state law (as well as municipal law) are "local" in context.

You need to tell the State of Michigan government they're misusing the terms Local and Regional Government.

No - in the context of Michigan state government, municipalities are "local"/"regional".

In the context of the religion, a whole swath of the southeast USA is a "region".

I sent back a chicken fried steak at a local Black Eyed Pea restaurant about 8 yrs ago.
The meat was almost impossible to cut thru, even with a serrated steak knife. So I called the waitress over to our table and said, "watch this"...then proceeded to saw away at it with the steak knife without success. I don't know what was inside the breading on that steak but it must have been the equivalent of saddle leather. That was the last time we ate there...haven't been back since.
Similar experience at The Olive Garden back in the late 90's. Found a live worm in our
salad. Didn't send that one back...just flagged the waiter down and showed it to him, got up and left. Never been back.
I eat lunch with a co worker who regularly sends back french fries if they are not piping hot and crispy right out of the fryer. So far no spit detected.

Ha - "Detected" is the key word :D

No, context explains it. It's rather simple.

When we talk about the Great Lakes Regional Council - the region covers 8 US states and a Canadian province.

When we talk about the Washtenaw County Regional government - the region covers one county in one state.

Regional (as well as local) is purely context dependent.

LOL! That was great. Thanks for the chuckle. You made my day.

If you're eating in a third rate chain like Applebee's then yeah, I'd be reluctant to send food back. Or if you see teenagers cooking your food. But I'm reluctant to eat in those kind of places anyway, because I already know it won't be very good.

In a decent restaurant I'd have no problem sending food back if it truly wasn't up to par. Professional chefs and cooks take pride in putting out good food, and if it's not right they'll want to fix it. Ever watch Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay? When a guest sends something back he gets mad at the cook, not the guest.

I must be special then.

had food poisoning four times: pizza joint, Subway (x2), Red Robin.

confirmed by a doctor and the health department? each case?
i bet not. what temperature is your fridge? what temperature is the water you wash your produce in? do you wash and sanitize all food contact areas in your kitchen before and after you prepare your meals? do you wash your hands or change gloves after handling each ingredient in the dishes you prepare? do you wear gloves when preparing yourself meals? do you use the same knife and cutting board for protiens and fruit and vegetables? do you thaw food in the microwave? do you only reheat leftovers once? do you ice bath or blast chill your leftovers before putting them in the fridge? do you cover or wrap hot food before putting it in the fridge?

just a couple quick questions.... i could continue...:smug:

Haha, there are some serious First World Problems going on in this thread. I understand rotten food and worms in salads, but "ZOMG! There are pickles on my burger! Get it outta here, cuz starving children in Africa would seriously hate pickles too!" is a little funny unless you're actually allergic to pickles. :D

The idea of pretending you're a food critic is pure win, though, IMHO. :D
