Do you send back food?

I just ate the worst tuna on wheat sandwich I've ever had. Water still on the tuna from the can, mixed with copious amounts of mayo. Sloppy, completely disgusting mess.

I just ran to the bathroom because I think I have moderate diarrhea.

Still, I'd rather eat it than risk eating a pubic hair instead, so I don't send anything back, unless it's a high class place.

I don't have that courage. I've been ashamedly a sabotager on the other side and I know what happens...I just won't go again.

All in how you do it. If you have to send stuff back your server can be your best advocate because they know if it's not made right and fast they aren't going to make squat off that table.

In all the years I cooked I only sabotaged one customer's plate and that wasn't even a sanitary thing.

Well I did put fresh flies in the burgers I served my boss. But he deserved it. :D

I've only sent my food back a few times in my life but only because they really screwed up the order and I didn't get what I asked for. If it's a little messed up I can live with it and if the food is right but it's horrible I complain to the manager first.

Yes, but very, very rarely.

The times that come to mind are more health issues than "not cooked how I like it" ... when some vegetables still had their sticky labels on (did you even wash these?) and some carpaccio that has turned brown from being left open to the air overnight before slicing it (ick! this is raw beef guys, it needs to be fresh!)

Rarely, but I've done it before.

I'm not one to try new things a whole lot when it comes to eating out, so I almost exclusively order a steak and chips, medium rare.

Generally medium rare is how it is, I can deal with it being a little over-cooked, but on more than one occasion I've been served up a well done hunk of cardboard. Those go back.

Only a few times. Once, I ordered prime rib at a ski resort and it wasn't cooked thoroughly- way too rare and I had asked for medium.

Another time, I went to lunch with two guys I worked with at the time and it was a a very casual place with baskets of peanuts on the tables & peanut shells on the floor (that's where they were supposed to go- it was the early '80s). Lots of playful banter with the waitress from the beginning and about half way into out Chimichangas, the she asked how everything was. One of the others said his Chimi was a little cold in the middle and I said that mine was, too. She took them and said she's take care of it- we thought they'd nuke it and be done, which would have been fine. We were hungover, so we needed food, not necessarily good food. She came back with a whole new one for each of us and we were pleasantly surprised. About halfway through, she came back and asked how they were and, in a really whiny voice, we simultaneously said, "Now it's too hot".

She threw a handful of peanuts at us.

I'll send back food that is over or under cooked, but always in a very polite manner. If you're going to complain or try to get someone in trouble, always wait until AFTER your food has been consumed.

I have a few friends that will send food back for anything, even if they just don't like it. Most of them will consume half of the food before they start complaining. When they do complain, they threaten tips and make a big deal with the manager. I don't eat out with those people......

I will if its not cooked the way I've asked or if there's clearly something wrong with it. I can't remember the last time either has happened in a restaurant. Maybe two years ago a pizzeria delivered me a pizza that was lukewarm at best. I called them about that and they sent a replacement right over.

I know people who'll try something they've never eaten before and send it back if they don't like it. I don't do that.

If I have to pay for it then it better be what I ordered. I am not shy about confronting a server or a manager if it is not done to satisfaction, that being said it doesnt happen to often, but I once found a 3 inch staple in a steak, I didnt just pull it out and put it off to the side and continue eating the steak. Things like that are inexcusable.
