I need you to be my inspiration :hmm: I wanna quit....but yet I don't want to :crying:

I smoked for about 12 years, but it has been 3 years & 5 months since I quit. I quit a few times before, once for an entire year, but each of those times I ended up using Skol or Cope, so I really can't count them.

You won't quit until you decide that you are done with it. For me, that happened when I nearly drowned one day because I didn't have the lungs to take 3 "on the head". (Translation for non-surfers- I couldn't stay under in a 3 wave hold down). When I made it back to the beach, I threw away a full pack and never went back on 'em.

I'm definitely not preaching though, smoke 'em as much as you want, just don't do it if I'm eating next to you. You'd be surprised just how different food tastes after you quit!

I've never lit anything on fire then intentionally inhaled the burnt offerings of it. Nothing. Ever. Never will.

Somehow, I am the only person in my family that can say that - lost my mother partially because of lung cancer, and I almost lost my dad (throat cancer - thankfully he "read the writing on the wall", and has since completely quit). Both of my sisters are so addicted they refuse to see what it has done to our parents. :scowl: :(

I don't think it makes a person "bad" to do it, but it does make me want to avoid them - nasty stinky gross smell (and kiss a girl that smokes? NEVER, like licking an ashtray. :spit: ). While I don't believe in legislating "morality", it would make me SO HAPPY if NC would institute a smoking ban in bars. That would make gigging so much more pleasant! :D

Everytime I see someone 40 or younger smoking I think it's so sad. Really. Smoking affects nearly ever part of your body, head to toe, inside and out. :(

But if they want to help me pay my mortgage, feed my kids, and buy my Sadowsky gear, etc, so be it.

I'm curious as to your thoughts on cigars. I receive some nicotine through the capillaries in my nose... is it the nicotine itself that's the problem or the other chemicals in cigarettes inhaled into the lungs that causes problems?

I'm not an expert on that but no smoking is far better than any type of smoking or even chewing tobacco. Cigars are better than cigarettes with less systemic effects but you still risk oral cancer.

Nicotine hooks you, but its generally the other components, and the fact your breathing smoke, which does the damage. I dont think nicotine causes anywhere near as much damage as the other components.
