Do you still enjoy going to shows?

My other half and I went out to see Pink Martini last night. I didn't enjoy it much and we left at intermission. I've never cared for concerts much to begin with, but that has certainly picked up as I've gotten older. Some of it has to do with my preferred method of consuming music - not in a big hall with a bunch of people and perfume burning my eyes.

There's this weird emotion of trying to learn the songs as they go by. Thinking how I'd lock into the drummer (who was excellent). Think about how the trumpet's mic was too loud (he was not excellent). On and on. Just couldn't switch my player mode off. Oddly, I've never had this issue with classical music, even when I was playing it.

I can only imagine what’s going on in your mind when you are playing live - this musician sucks, that musician too loud, etc...:smug:

Yes, I love a great live show. There is a certain amount of critiquing, and I'm much more alert to a bad mix than I was before I started playing. But when it's good, I love it. Last year was a really good year for shows for me - I saw Samantha Fish, Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas, JD McPherson, who was opening for St. Paul and the Broken Bones, the Shins, Young the Giant with Cold War Kids opening... all great shows. The Shins were the least exciting to me and Cold War Kids aren't as cool as they were when I first got into them seven or eight years ago, but on the whole, great set of shows.

By and large no. I stopped going for many years because I was simply tired of dealing with drunk people, having to stand the entire time because if i sat down i couldn't see as everyone else was standing, and than getting either spit on or having booze spilled on me.

That said, I saw Dead and Co. in Philly in the fall and more or less enjoyed myself.

Outdoor concerts I've never really been a fan of at all. Generally it's too hot/muggy for me to really enjoy myself, and by and large the sound at those is pretty lame compared to indoor shows.

I do enjoy going to concerts still. I've got tickets for Ozzy, Hall and Oates, and ELO this year.
But I'm going to less and less concerts the older I'm getting. Probably a combination of trying to save money, being more picky with who I'm seeing, and trying to save my hearing.
What's bugging me now are all the people who have their cellphones out and record the whole concert. If you wanted to watch the concert through a screen, just buy a DVD of the concert and call it a day.

Most of the shows I’ve seen in the past five years or so were the bands I was opening up for, so I’ve been a little spoiled being backstage to view the show.

I’m doing a show with members of Dio’s band next month, and it will be a treat meeting Vivian Campbell and Vinny Appiece, the latter I’ve always loved and looked up to as a drummer. I’m looking forward to that one

i really enjoy to check out most of the bands that hit my town, and i really have a thing for the new bands when they are at 1st-2nd lp. It's a little bit of torture to watch some kids that are probably 2 decades younger to rock the stage, and especially sometimes i feel a little odd in the audience, but still i feel this the way to go and keep the energy high.
on the other hand i really hate acts that are playing mainly what made them famous like half a century ago. in that case i really prefer to listen the original recording at home. it's something weird/akward when hearing a 55 old guy spiting the lyrics he wrote when he was 18 and i am pretty sure this is not the way he express himself in recent times.

Not really!
I go to support the local artists & just to get out of the house, but I'm not really there to get loaded & have a good time.

Let's be honest, if I wanted to hear Mother - Danzig, I'd rather hear the original artist & could probably find a live performance to watch online quite easily.
or I could just put on DemonSweat Live (which I own)

It's nice to have A beer (no more than one) & a dozen buffalo wings, but then I'm ready to go home.
I'm not that guy who sits or stands out there bobbing his head along & getting into it.

They probably think that I'm sitting there thinking to myself that I could play it better.
I'm not, but I just have a critical face on when listening to music.
It's almost gotten me into fist-fights in bars, when I'm staring across the bar while intently listening.

I've been to countless shows in my lifetime, and just don't feel the need to chase artists down to watch them these days. I've become a bit of a recluse & hate fighting the traffic & the crowds.
If Danzig/Misfits did a show 50 miles away on a Wednesday evening I'd go, but...

instead it's 200 miles away & on a Friday or Saturday night when the traffic will be murder.
not to mention I'd need to find someone to hold up my night-time responsibilities on a Friday or Saturday night

I should add that when I lived in San Pedro (SouthWest L.A.) that I went to shows nearly every night.

I enjoy going to shows. Last year we saw Edgar Winter, Here Come The Mummies, Steven Tyler, Doobie Brothers, Chicago and Melissa Etheridge. This year we are seeing Patty Smythe and Scandal, Eagles with James Taylor and Alice Cooper. I like seeing and hearing these bands and all concerts, so far, have been amazing in a live situation!

I did a show with "here come the Mummies" about three years ago. They are an amazing band, one of the best shows I've seen in a while. The "cowbell" the singer "plays" is rather interesting.

I'd highly suggest see them to anyone that hasn't caught their act. I was hanging with Scott Bartlet (Saving Able) and we were both geeking on how good that band was. Some of the best funk I've heard in a long time.
