Do You Think Musically?

For example......you look at a glass calm lake in the mountains.....can you immediately think of how you would put that to music?

You see a riot on t.v. news.........can you think pretty quick of a music soundtrack that would typify the scene?

Can you easily come up with music that describes a mood or feeling? And what instruments to use?

Not a work you already heard that describes these things.....but one that you think of yourself.......

etc etc etc ................

Music does enter my thoughts a lot, and I relate some things to music--whether a song, an instrument or something like that.
I also make lyric references all the time.
Most people don't get them, but when people do, it's cool.

I've also done improv comedy, and that really sticks in your head--life is like one big improv-which can really mess with you.

I think using musical analogies / parallels a lot. People think in terms of their language, and music is like having another language to think with. I like having more tools in the mental-toolbox and music is a biggie.

Whenever I write or type something that I write or type very often - like my name, address, e-mail address, passwords, etc. - I always attach a little rhythm to it in my head. I also like to do DJ scratch-style rhythms if I'm wiping something with a vinyl-like texture; I'll even do pseudo-scratching while zipping a jacket!

Back in the '80s I wrote a song called "Touchtone" after hearing a phone ringing.

Normal every day conversations always conjure up song lyrics.
For instance, if someone says "That's just the way it is..." I immediately think of Bruce Hornsby... that kind of thing happens all day long to me. I usually sing it back to the person who says it to me. lol

We used to have a field-day in our office with this stuff! The resident O.D. could take anything that was said, quickly identify the appropriate song, and start singing the lyrical version. It caught on.
