I was gifted an original late 50s Danelectro Longhorn in the late 60s. I wasn't playing bass at the time and it just sat in my closet. I first saw one on the cover of the Trashmen's. Surfin' Bird album and thought it was really cool. After starting to play and having picked up a Precision, I decided to pull out the longhorn and give it a listen. I loved the weight, the funky (and cheap!) way it was built…and I loved the sound. At the time, I hadn't developed much muscle memory so I wanted to concentrate on the 34-inch scale and I traded it straight up for a new Peavey T-40. I still think they were a cool bass that sounded better than they had any right to.
