Do you use an electronic tuner?

I tried to like the Cyborg Korgs, but I could never get JUST the green light to stay on... I've had good succes with an older model Sabine TR-1601. I can plug it into the FX loop of my pre and use the mute function and it also allows for transposing if I want to tune down a half step or two.

THe Boss TU-2 pedal is also pretty good. I think it allows for mute tuning, it only has one green indicator light like the Sabine, and it's pretty sturdy. I just ain't one for the floor pedal board thing. I prefer a permanent rack mounted tuner.

I don't think Sabine makes the RT-1601 anymore. Now they make the RT7000 or something like that. Kinda hate it that they went cyborg mode like the Korg.

I own a Seiko too, and it's worked very well for me. I haven't had to replace a battery yet, and it's a great tuner.

Me too. I love this tuner. I bought a replacement for it, but this one tracks the note better.

I started carrying a tuner to my gigs only after I got my electric upright in 1999, because that instrument is very hard to tune just by ear if you're playing it pizzicato. With a bow it's pretty easy, but of course I wasn't going to carry my bow just for tuning my upright, so I got my Yamaha YT-2200. But before that, I tuned my bass just by ear (having absolute ear helps a lot).

I agree, I don't usually bring a tuner when I'm playing electric, so I enver thought to playing upright, and I didn't have my bow with me and I immediatly regretted it.

With that said I still don't have a tuner I tune to the piano player, or if he's not there my trumpet player has perfect pitch so I use him. My modulus could sit in a sauna for hours and still be in tune, so my only trouble is really when i bump it into something.

I use a Korg. I want to try one of the tuners that sense the vibration through the wood and tell you your pitch. I could just leave it stuck on and tune on the fly if for some reason i was drastically out

I think i'm gonna stick with the boss and just get a new one. Never had any problems with it. Why fix what ain't broke.

Anyone know the differnce between the extended range boss and regular one though?

IIRC, the extended range Boss is only extended in the highest register. I don't think it would affect tuning a bass. Also, it seems like getting crushed would qualify as having a problem. Seriously, if you liked the Boss, you should stick with it. Good luck.

I agree, I don't usually bring a tuner when I'm playing electric,

so now I just tune by ear to my band's guitarists, which I have to do anyway because they aren't real consistent even with electronic tuners.

As far as a rock band goes... It strikes me as completely amateurish to hear a band tuning to each other before a show.

I use the tuner in my Zoom 506 II pedal most of the time.

Peterson VS-II. It's overkill, but I am ALWAYS in tune. I recommend the Strobostomp. Same circuit, more compact and sturdy body. You'll never go back to needle tuners again.

There's no need to let the audience notice. Besides, I judge rock bands on the quality of their music and performance.

I went with a Korg because the read out is little bigger than the TU-2 and it is very bright. You can easily read it in bright sunlight. It's a little wider than the Boss.

I use some sort of Fender tuner that came in the accessory pack (simplest tuner ever), it does the job but I dont expect any precision with only 3 tuning lights as my guide guide

I will probably get a proper one someday...

I've got a cheapo Korg. It says "Bass" right on the front. How cool is that? I stuck a strip of Velcro on it and one on the right front corner of the top of my amp road case, so I can stand it up. Works for me!

+1 to the Fender man about how they stay in tune. I love that!

i have a TU-2. i wound up cutting up the inside of my case to fit this in to it. i also like that i can use it to power my other pedals when necessary and works as a mute.

Bought a TU 12. Damn, wish I new before I did about the 15. My ONLY gripe with the 12 is that it doesn't really pick up the low B. Ahhh... whatever. The 12 has done me fine for many years. It shall continue to do the job.

I swear by my TU-2. I've been on my guitarist's case for months to buy one. I'm trying to figure out when his birthday is so I have an excuse to get him one. He uses a cheap KORG on top of his amp right now. Unplugging to tune every two-three songs gets old FAST during a show.

Electric, almost always. DB, I always have one with my own bass. If necessary, I'll tune to the piano or whatever is available. If I'm feeling lazy and not using my own bass like this morning in first period, I'll make sure I'm fully in tune to myself and just adjust my playing as necessary.

Sorry man...I still hve a TU-12, when I switched to five string that inability to pick up the Low B really bugged me until they came out with the TU15...you're not able to exchange it?

I hate electric tuners. I use what's commonly called a "Pitch Pipe". A round instrument that sounds just like a harmonica. Trains the ear better that way. Plus...it doesn't need batteries, if I drop it I'm not worried about it breaking, and it makes me look really cool
