Do you wear a tie at work?

My work clothes are typically a gi, hakama and katana. I love that.

Actually part of it makes sense. It is in part to cover the buttons and line underneath.

I choose to wear shirts with no buttons.

yes those shirt buttons can be so offensive to the eyes. I own one or two but haven't worn one in quite some time , frankly I see them more as a safety hazard then a fashion statement

Ironically the only job I ever had to wear at tie at was my lowest paying one. Bagging groceries at a local super market when I was a teenager.

Here in Japan a tie is considered an everyday necessity. I think the boys come outta the womb with a tie on.

I do not. I wear casual, expendable clothing, because whatever I wear will get destroyed. I do have a rather nice company shirt to wear in colder months and company t shirts to wear in warmer months, but suit-and-tie type clothing would not work at all.

Petrochem facility, engineering center. Either jeans & a dress shirt(office) or flame resistant clothing(inside the fence line and in the plants).
Ties & machinery don't mix too well.

The only time I do ties now is when we have a wedding gig or other formal band thing. Doing backup vocals with a tie is not fun(top button gets undone, tie gets loosened).

I always wear a suit and tie at work - it is part of my job. I think it's true that the wearing of ties is much less common in white collar jobs than it used to be. Not sure if that's good or not.

I work in the construction industry so no ties at work for me. I must say however that when I do wear one , it looks fantastic on me.

I went to Catholic School for 12 years. At the end of it I swore I'd never take a job that required wearing a tie. I'm almost 50 now, and in my entire professional career I've only worn a tie 2 or 3 times. Now that I work from home I don't even wear pants most days. So... me for the win! The funny thing is that most of my older brothers, who all went through Catholic School too, have jobs that require at least occasional tie wearing, and they all seem to like getting dressed up.

Tie wearing definitely seems to be on the way out. I did some expert witness testimony a couple of years back, and when the attorney was prepping me for the hearing he specifically told me NOT to wear a tie. Only the top admin people at the main office of my company wear them, and they only seem to do so on specific occasions.

If I stop by the supermarket or my local bar for a drink, people treat me much different. They say "excuse me" as the hurry to get out of my way. I can see how rich people get addicted to that kind of treatment.

Nah, my crimes aren't fancy enough to require a tie. If I was into white collar crime I would though, you've got to blend in.

I'm in real estate. Sometimes I wear jeans and a sport coat, sometimes jeans and a polo, sometimes a suit w/tie, sometimes w/o tie, sometimes sport coat and tie.

It all depends on the situation, the client (or not), my mood, etc.

I like the flexibility. Because I don't have to, I enjoy doing so when the mood strikes me and/or if it's appropriate.
