It kinda bugs me too. My son doesn't leave the house with my bass equipment other than a bass itself to play church gigs. If he were in bands, I'd be helping him look for his own amp gear. The second pic I took of him (first post) shows the bass I made for him to take to school next year.

Youngest son, 29, plays guitar and sings. He lives in Brooklyn and plays in a band (Aim For The Bushes) and posts stuff on Instagram. He was likely influenced by me, LOL, and appreciates all music. (Good boy!) He took lessons for a few years in school, and is a natural.

Daughter is a music teacher. Studied violin through grad school, plays in bluegrass/Celtic/world music projects. Gifted teacher. She plays viola, cello, urb, and electric bass pretty well. I got her her first bass (Fender Mustang) when she was 11. Proud moment: The day she came upstairs and said, “Jeez Dad, Paul McCartney is a genius.”
Yep. Youngest (18) not only plays, but kicks my ass. Same kid is also one of my guitarists/vocalist/lyricist for my Stoner/Doom band. It’s pretty freaking awesome.
Yes, my daughter plays Classical Double Bass. Currently in 2nd year at Royal Academy, London. She's in here somewhere, just after performing Les offerandes oubliées (Messiaen), Première Rhapsody (Debussy) and Boléro (Ravel) under John Wilson at the Duke's Hall in December:

Our kid started on drums, but migrated to piano/keys. Which is great.
Slow going, she occasionally asks to practice with me, for maybe 15 mins at a time.

My youngest played double bass during school, but didnt stick with it after despite my pops buying her a VERY nice upright. I am the only one who plays it these days.

Yes. My oldest son. Ironically, he took to fretless almost immediately. He wanted my fretless as a matter of fact. I said uh-uh, get your own. He did. That’s his primary bass now.
my son owns a bass and a guitar, but we've known he was a drummer since he was 2.5. i sat him behind a drum kit at gc and gave him some sticks. he crossed his hands - right for hi hat, left for snare. figured we should encourage that. he's 16 now, and his band's working on their second album. here's a song from the concert video they're releasing later this year.
Same here. Stuff I struggle with learning all night only takes him a couple of tries to master. Then he rubs my face in it by playing it faster. Grrr
