The only thing that's spoiler-y is the credits thing, and I don't even know what it is yet!
I've liked CE, DT, and MS. But the way things are looking, Capaldi will be the best of all (even if the writing is weak sometimes.)

I never watch the trailers. When the episode ends, I change the station. I like to go in it completely blank.
Characterization-wise, no one can ever top Tom Baker. However, poor Tom had to deal with some pretty sad stories/scripts/effects/direction at times. Some of the best Who ever made is borderline terrible sometimes.
I do like Capaldi, but then again, I like all the doctors.
I think Tom Baker does have that reputation. I'm not too familiar, only somewhat, with what happened before 2005. But I was referring to the reboot in 2005. All the actors have been great, with Capaldi being the biggest surprise of all to me personally. Also, in my personal view, Clara has been the best companion since 2005. I liked Amy Pond a lot, too. But there seemed to be an aloofness written into her character which I think they could have done better without. Karen Gillan is doing some American comedy show now. I don't look at her that much as an aloof person by nature. In general, I didn't much like the way her character was written in DW, but the Clara character flows well.
When the reboot hit, I was floored by Eccleston and Billie Piper. I thought they were fantastic, and I was just amazed by the quality of the new show. Eccleston left, and I didn't want to like Tennant, but I did, in fact I loved him. Tennant left, and I didn't want to like Smith, but again, I loved him. I have liked every doctor and every companion of the new series, and I feel like the "fans" have been fangeeks, and overly critical of everything.
In the last year of Smith's tenure, I felt like the writing got a tad weak now and then, and I feel like poor Clara has had to do some sub-par episodes, and a couple of these Capaldi episodes have been somewhat sorry, in my opinion, but NOT THAT BAD.
Go back to the eighties, when Colin Baker's regenerated Doctor tries to strangle companion Peri to death, and take note of the outfit they put him in, and see some actors who had to struggle mightily to keep the show afloat. (ultimately, they would fail, twice)
See any of the last Tom Baker/first Peter Davison episodes with Adric and Tegan, and later, that ridiculous silver robot, Kamelion, and be amazed at just how much a great show can suck. Not to mention all the times the "tin dog" just fired a laser at the bad guy to save the day.
Doctor Who had truly great episodes in every single season, and truly awful ones in quite a few seasons. Every single doctor had bad ones, too.
Go back and watch some of the sixties ones, too, though. There sure are some good ones!
Hartnell was a particularly grouchy doctor.
Any criticism I might have is fairly minor. Some people get all bent out of shape and become ridiculous, though. Recently, for instance, I was reading some comments somewhere in which someone saw something he didn't like in the plot. He blamed it on the fact that they're also having to write for American audiences. So if something doesn't go quite right, I'm the problem because I'm a member of the American audience? That is absurd. DW is a British show with an international audience.
I suppose I did get a little weary of the Amy/Rory relationship, but once again, that's just something minor. The bottom line is that DW is by far the best sci fi on TV. In fact, at this point in time it's the best television show, period. It's the only one I watch on a regular basis. I've liked every season. But this season is turning out to be my favorite. As far as I'm concerned, the BBC is doing something very right. But I'll agree that 2005 season was a perfect way to get things started and they've just kept progressing.

I just noticed Karen Gillan's TV show got canceled. I only watched five minutes of it and knew that would happen. Not her fault; it's just another lame American comedy. The thing about comedy is that now most writers don't have the slightest idea how to write anything funny.

Well, maybe I'm just jaded - but I'd like to retract what I said about the first part of the finale last week. I just watched the conclusion and it was hugely disappointing. I don't often use the word "rubbish" but I do think it's appropriate here. Just awfully inept and uninspiring. Bleh.
I hope you guys like it and get a kick out of it. But whatever it was I used to enjoy about Doctor Who is no longer part of the show, based on this series. I'm out.

I'm about to watch the conclusion. But I have to agree with what you said about the first part of the finale. It was by far the worst episode of the season. I hope the conclusion isn't as bad as I think it will be. This season up to last week has been great.
I thought it was fantastic, and I've watched almost every show, from Hartnell on.
It did wobble badly last week in places. But tonight's episode was much better. I still place this season as the best since the 2005 reboot. I'm very much looking forward to Christmas.
For what my opinion's worth, I thought one of the best plot devices in Dr Who's recent history was Matt Smith in the Tesseract ("a doctor in a doctor's suit") and how that was worked in from the moment he got "killed" to when he beat that plot. It was genius.

No, I don't think you're wrong. Despite the fact that all the statements I've made may seem contradictory here, I really am disappointed how they have needlessly tapped into horror for the last two episodes. I know this has been done before, but there was something unappealing about it this time. Still, I rate Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi as outstanding. There have been some spectacular moments between them. I hope this will continue.
The conclusion of the series was just too easy in my opinion. I think they wasted a Master storyline on a pretty weak conclusion. I also think that using the master with this storyline was kind of a stretch given how they parted ways the last time they encountered each other. I don't know, do we need every season to be a gigantic build-up? After the last 2-3 buildups (Pond buildup #1, Pond buildup #2, the Nth Gallifrey buildup), maybe what was needed was a straight adventure series, explore a few more external characters before we get another one of these. Oh well, maybe this was just a preview series to make way for a real build-up that will not just fizzle out?

Missy was crazy enough to be a believable Master (she had to be after John Simm's scenery chewing a few series back), but, if I had a criticism to level, it's that the Cybermen just aren't particularly scary or intimidating anymore. This isn't the race that were such a dire threat in the likes of Silver Nemesis. Also, I was sad that Osgood got killed - she was the perfect proxy for the audience, since she was basically a cosplaying fangirl. But she might not be dead... what if it was the Zygon Osgood?
And, finally, at the end of the series, I believe in Peter Capaldi as The Doctor. It was that speech he did at the end, "I'm not a good man, I'm not a bad man... I'm an idiot. With a box and a screwdriver".

That's a pity. I thought she was great. Little chunky underneath, but very very cute.
I enjoyed the season. Overall. I do agree with bill's idea of a story for every 5 episodes. As is they feel a little short and rushed.
