Double Bass Documentary: Ron Carter - Finding The Right Notes

The production may have needed some more background or something to appeal to those who aren’t jazz fans or bass players.
My wife did not appreciate the movie.
She wondered why everyone made such a big deal about him and acted like he was some famous musician when “he only plays the bass, so who cares?”
He played here in Florida a couple months ago, she thought I was crazy to drive three hours to go hear him.

I watched in my basement on a computer monitor, but through my stereo. Sounded great.

Yeah, I watched it through my home theater and it sounded pretty good. One thing I noticed is, here’s a guy on more recordings than anyone, including a lot of favorites in my collection, and he’s playing them on that sad little sound system!

Well that’s more like it! Missed the turntable but he popped a cd into a system that looked, well, beneath his status.

I wish Mr. Carter had commented on the circumstances that led to his "...Notes" on the recording below @5:19 - 5:34, when he posted this track on his YT channel.
(I've heard Mr. Getz could be difficult to work with...maybe Mr. Getz preferred his solo on this take, and did not want to redo the tune to "clean up" the "Wrong Notes"?)

Ron Carter is a fine player and a class act.

His fashion sense has always stood out to me.
He’s the guy wearing a gabardine black suit, overcoat and fine quality shoes.
Ron just looks better than most out there.

One day on Facebook he was talking about his shirts and where the black buttons
came from. Long ago he was playing a black tie event with Tony Bennett. On a break he mentioned to
Tony that his shirt looked really good with the black buttons, a big show was coming up, and where does he buy them?

Tony replied “no need to buy at a fancy shop. Just take a white shirt you like, pick up some black buttons and sew them on”

Ron is my gold standard for concert dress. On the classical orchestra stage I am always closest to the audience, sometimes really close. Last Sunday if I moved 4” closer to them I would have fallen off. I should look ok, as people see everything under the stage lights. So I have my black button white shirt with green crystal gold cuff links, Jaeger LeCoutre dress watch, black patent leather Euro shoes, etc.

The story is that the day before Getz recorded with Chick's trio: Swallow and Roy Haynes. Getz was drunk(er than usual), crabby, disrespectful of Roy, and played poorly, so the session was a bust. Roy and Steve were pissed and refused to come back and try it again, so Ron and Grady Tate were last minute subs playing the music for the first time. Why they kept the track where Ron famously screwed up the form is anyone's guess, but all in all I think he plays great on the album and it's a very successful record.
