The new Spyral effects Yellow is a DOD 250 based circuit with mods that sound great on bass. Also the DOD Boneshaker was a colaboration betwen the DOD and Black Arts that used the 250 circuit as a base to build that pedal. I have a custom 250 pedal made by Dennis Pleckham and the pedal stopped working and I gave it to a local guy to repair it and he ended moding it a bit. This pedal sounds amazing on bass. And it has a led setting that I absolutely love. It gives more headroom and retains better the low end. It's were it sounds better with my basses. Heres a picture of it.
Pretty sure this thing is a 250 variant: Dr. J D52 Soloman Bass Overdrive Pedal I have one, no low end loss, sounds a helluva lot like my 250...
Hmm, interesting. Have you got a shot of the guts? If it has the LM741 chip then we might be on to something here.
I found the low end loss tolerable depending on the signal chain, gain setting and song. Ultimately I replaced it with a Bass Tightfuzz which isn't that similar sounding but is super versatile, can handle low/mid gain tones and actually boosts lows. Anyone try a Grey Channel?
DOD Preamp 250 mod This thread is helpful in discussing how the DOD 250 cuts bass and which simple mods can address it.
Yes. If you really think there isn't bass loss, please call your doctor immediately for a hearing test.
Yeah sorry, $20 N2, tin-can LM741, capacitor network, texture toggle, oxided tops, and hand-building really drive the price up. Fortunately there are a ton of basic 250's out there.
Gut shot request seconded! Crack that baby open and let’s see what she’s got! I did a google search but only wound up with a lot of profiles for various Dr Solomon’s. Could’ve been worse I suppose It’s caught my eye quite a few times but I have yet to bite the bullet for one. FWIW, from what I can tell it doesn’t have the LM741 chip but with 2 channels and 6 clipping options maybe that’s a moot point...
I will upload a demo of my 250 soon as i can so you can judge yourself. Not for nothing Line6 call it "the secret weapon" on their helix.
