DOD FX25 vs 25B

Got one of each and they're quite interesting and quite different, as outlined by Bongo's review.

The 25 has a darker sound and a "vintage" feel. Read somewhere that its sound makes you think of 70's porno flicks and from what I hear from my more knowledgeable buddies on the subject (!), it's true. No noticeable volume-loss on my unit, but the real "SURPRISE !" is that it works with a 10-volt adapter !!! (and batteries, of course). For now, i've got settings on 9.5 (range) and 3(sens).

The 25 B seems treblier (settings used: blend 7 am, sens at max and range at noon) and you can get a sound closer to an auto-wah than with the old 25. Slight Volume loss.

I still have a lot of experimenting to do (especially with the old 25). Both sound great it their own right and produce no noticeable noise.

I have one of each as well.

The volume thing with the 25B is a PITA but could be worked around by putting in a TBP Loop with a clean boost.

I really like the barky sounds you can get from the 25 when your attack maxes open the filter. Mostly though, I use it with the filter closed to get that dubby sound. The stomp button on mine doesn't really work worth a ****, I need to have it replaced or run it in a loop leaving it on all the time. It can get pretty loud too over the dry signal.

Huh... I'm not familiar with the "PITA" and "TBP" acronyms so I'm not exactly sure what you mean :hmm:

But I'm thinking about adding a (second) Boss LS-2 and looping the filters (I have a modded bassballs on the way, which suffers from the same ailment). That way, I can boost their signal and keep'em quiet when I don't need'em. Izzat what you meant ?

Yeah sorta - what I was saying is that if you put your fx25b in a loop with a clean boost after, you can leave both effects on, and when you kick the loop switch it'll bring both in at once - you can set the clean boost to make up for volume drop.

Ha, I have a bassballs too, old USA model - and with the distortion on it WAY boosts the volume. I've been thinking of modding that with a little standalone looper with passive volume control so I can turn it down when engaged.

If every pedal just gave an output control for unity volume our lives would be much easier.
