I've heard on another site I posted this is that these mini bows would be used in the pit where room was at a premium and not allowing for the movement of a full bow.
I've had the notion to shorten and mend a bow I broke years ago (threw it on the driver's seat loading up after a gig, got in the car without looking and crack...). I don't play in a pit usually but I was thinking a short bow would be sweet for really fast staccato stuff, fiddle tunes. Maybe not that short, though.. Could fit that one in your shirt pocket for convenience.
