i think the squier vm jazz really exceeds in price. the necks they come with are a bit dodgy as far as straightness but the tone is so money! Is there anything on the high end that is similar in tone? I would endorse this bass if i could

does any high end jazz sound like the vm squier jazz?

Yeah. Its a shame that something affordable has comparable tone to an overpriced Fender copy.
It's even more of a shame that you "think" it does.
Man some people are easily offended. Maybe they should have just bought the Squier and used the money they saved on a sense of humor.
I started a thread about this a week ago,I went to gc planind to spend up to 1500 on a jazz,ended up buying a Squier vm.I think it played and sounded better than anything in th price range I was looking for.
You can get the right picture only in the studio or during live situation with loud guitars. Usually the better the wood - the better the sound.
Somehow the wood is getting better with cheap basses like Squier. But in my opinion the cheap basses tend to have pickups and electronics as the weakest part. Then truss rods. Also look at the fretwork. Good fretwork adds a lot to the price.
I've got a '08' MIA Fender Jazz V and a Squier FVM Fretless, though the Fretless is a nice axe it doesn't compare to the '08' at all, IMO. I swapped out the Duncan Designed pups for some Bartolini 9J1's and it made the Squier sound like a $1,000 bass. Before I swapped out the pup's, the bass sounded substantially thin compared to the '08'. When you hold the '08' you can just feel the girth and resonance from the body when played acoustically, you don't get that feeling with the Squier; different tone woods. But still, the Squier FVM basses are of decent quality and value, you can't deny that.
Goes to show you its all a matter of opinion,i played a mia jazz and still ended up with the squier even though the other was what i originally went to buy.
That's an impressive quote. I have never played these VMs, but it sure sounds like most people love them.
It was an impressive bass,I was kinda reluctant at first because I had been saving for the Fender,and the FEnder was great too, but with a $1000 price diff.
