Does anybody here actually OWN a fodera?

Re- read my OP - it's not a bashing thread at all! I was merely asking a question, since 1: I saw the price and was astonished and 2: in hindsight, I haven't seen much fodera "buzz" on TB... I guess I just wasn't looking for it, hah.

OK guys, I've got to clarify - this post realllly went off on a tangent of sorts.

1: I was NOT IN ANY WAY "trashing" fodera - they are beautiful instruments

I'd love to sit down and play a Fodera; I've never even seen one 'in the flesh'. I've listened to many clips of them being played, and I'm not certain that the signature sound they produce is for me, but I'd still luuurve to try one. Did I mention that I'd like to give one a go? 'Cause, I would.

Wow! Did anyone actually trash Fodera basses? I certainly was not! I merely said I would not ever spend $8k-$10k+ for one! Or any bass for that matter! Fully understanding the time and effort that goes into building one! I have played several Foderas and yes they are fine instruments! But not enough to invoke me to tap into my savings account to buy a new one!

To the cat who called BS if one had the money to buy one, they would...........Wow! If one is used to having that kind of coin and spending that kind of coin, probably! Me? I'm middle class bordering on poor! If I came into money, I'd still be just as frugal and cheap as I am now!

I could easily afford one.
But I rather have a couple of basses of the same caliber for 1/3 the price. Sue me :D

You still have the facts wrong...$8,500 is the Street Price for a 6-string Elite...hardly a "base model." A 4-string bolt-on that is completely hand made is around $5,625...so that would be the BASE PRICE.

The reason that I spent time to post was certainly not to advertise...but rather to clear up some common misconceptions. It is unfortunate that much of what gets debated these days (not just here, but almost everywhere it seems) is based purely on opinion. So when someone says, "Foderas are sooooooo much more expensive than (insert brand here)." Is it really accurate? Are you comparing apples to apples? How many builders even offer five different 6-string neck-through designs AND let you modify the body shape, neck profile and string spacing exactly the way you want to with no additional charges? Please compare us to those builders...our prices compare quite favorably. And, this is not my opinion...it is based on research and facts.

I am going down to my studio to practice now, right after my 4-string Monarch (significantly under $8,500) makes the family lunch...I am thinking pasta and a tomato salad...sandwiches would be too easy.

You're really making this into something that it isn't - nobody said anything negative about the company or the basses or even the prices. I won't tell you to try and be more professional because I'm just a kid and it wouldn't mean much, but none the less....

Apples and oranges.

In my opinion the custom basses I had made are as good or even better than the Foderas I've owned. The craftsmanship, woods used, finish, feel etc are just as good (and nice) and the tone totally kills.... And I didn't paid a lot (well, around $$3000 for each).
I've tried just about every bass out there and I settled with my R-Basses, they work for me but that's just my opinion. YMMV etc.

Disclaimer. I'm in no way affiliated to R-Basses, I'm just a very happy customer. :D

I got to play Fodera many years ago before I was even any good at playing. It was an older friend of mine who is a pro bassist. I remember it being built and crafted very well. It was a beautiful instrument.

Do I ever need a Fodera? No, not for what kind of music I play.
Is a Fodera over priced from what you get? Not in my opinion.

I'd rather spend 6K on a Fodera than 4K on a Fender Custom Shop or a Ken Smith...
