I tend to EQ mostly flat and use no effects pedals, but have to admit...I am in the process of building a bit of a pedal board as an experimental winter project.

Pedals are great to play with at home in your bedroom behind closed doors - the problem comes when you start running around in public doing them "better kept private" things
.I do carry a tuner pedal (for silent tuning) and an OD of some sort for when whatever amp I'm using doesn't do it - a couple of the rehearsal spaces have amps that aren't mine. Tonight's my CTM-30 so I'll probably go straight in and not leave even the tuner in-line

Can one of you BCA guys explain to me how magnets picking up a vibrating string, travelling through at least 6 feet of cable to an amplifier that contains hundreds of components that will all have an effect on your tone, then travelling to a speaker and cabinet that are going to have their own frequency response/roll off is the pure tone of your bass. All your knobs at noon on your amp isn't necessarily flat regardless of the fact that you think it is. Want the pure sound of your bass? Unplug it. Be smug about nobody hearing your boring tone.

Here's one of my favorite live bass clips. Can anyone ID the various pedals in Tony's rig? I'm certain he would not sound the same here without them.
And anyone who says "pedals don't matter live" is mistaken, I recall an LA Band called Muse who used to KILL live and the bassist used all kinds of tasty effects that DOMINATED AND DEFINED their live sound.
I don't recall one person saying they are better for not using effects? Why so defensive?

As long as I am playing through a GK head I'll use the fulltone fatboost. It gives me a nice light tube grind. I also have used a delay and a flanger on and off in the past. It really depends on what the gig calls for. It's nice to plug and play, it's also nice to have sounds that require a bit more if you need them.
Read the thread there's at least 4 or 5 examples of BCA superiority complex on every page. That's what is annoying. There are ways of saying you prefer your clean sound and don't use effects without sounding like a complete a$$hole. It might be hard for some people but it is possible.
