Look on this page (17) there are a couple of examples. I'm not going to comb through the thread and explain why something is being said from a stance of either superiority, or just plain ignorance of the application and use of effects, or blanket statements that make no sense like tone is in the fingers(do you have envelope filter fingers?) or all anyone should need is blah blah blah. Anyway I'm done posting in this circle jerk or pure tone awesomeness so I'll be in the corner plugging my PT-3 into my horizontally stacked vertical array of speakers making noise that no one in the audience can or hear or care about.

If you're talking about my posts - well I did my best to make them so over the top that I can't believe anyone took them seriously. I was making fun of the BCA purists myself. I usually have at least my Zoom B1on. My usual gigging amp is a TH-350 which has a built-in tonehammer pedal. But yes, as tonight I'll have my CTM-30 and a passive PJ (not my usual which has 18V EMG electronics) I may just give BCA a go - might put my Caline Pure Sky in if we end up playing too softly to get the CTM-30 cranking. Why are pedal folks so touchy :meh:? Must be a mojo deficiency ;).

Years and years of BCA guys trolling the effects forum on a daily basis and being dicks tends piss people off after a while. Seeing a whole thread dedicated to it is kinda sad and anger inducing. Yeah the written word makes it hard to convey things like humor on the interwebz. I thought you were serious, not gonna lie. Anyway. I don't think there's anything wrong with not liking or using effects it's just the way these things are said and the tone of "I'm better because I do it this way and if you don't you're wrong." that seems to cover these kinds statements is just douchey.

On Bass I mostly do that, but sometimes I use effects.

On guitar I'm more likely to use effects, but will just plug & play as well.

For either one it depends on what I'm playing & why & where & what I feel like at the time.

Almost, bass guitar >> tuner >> tone shaper >> PA

The tone shaper is a Dr. J Sparrow to add some warmth.

Nothing wrong with using pedals if it fits the music. I think a wah adds some character to the rhythm impact of a bass guitar. Distortion obviously gives an edgy feeling. Echo/delay and phaser/flanger a sense of the ethereal.

Well, gotta say that tonight my new-to-me Squire Jaguar SS with stock strings and Geezer Butler signature PJ pickups (alnico passives) straight into my Ashdown CTM-30 set flat into a Peavey TVX w/tweeterless mod brought the mojo home :cool:. Ain't done the BCA thing in a while - thanks for the inspiration ;).

And anyone who says "pedals don't matter live" is mistaken, I recall an LA Band called Muse who used to KILL live and the bassist used all kinds of tasty effects that DOMINATED AND DEFINED their live sound.

that is incredible. the man has more talent in his pinky then i do in my entire body. maybe when i'm as good as he is i'll get a pedal or two but until then...bass, cord, amp. ;)

Hmm... I really do like having an in-line tuner pedal (plus can't go back after bitching at all my guitards to get them too ;)) but none of mine are "true bypass" and most of those still drain the battery when the input is plugged in even when "off" :( . So - I just scored a Korg PitchBlack off of fleaBay for $30 that was returned for not working on eternal power but is fine on battery :) . It's the only one I could find that actually turns off when off. My DT-10 is always buffering so the battery life is rated at 3 hours "on" and 50 hours "off". The PitchBlack is rated at 5 hours "on" with no "off" spec - which from what I saw on the web confuses the heck out of folks who don't realize that it doesn't drain the battery at all when "off". So, what are you BCA purists using?

But - that leaves me with a 10 foot cable to the amp and a 20 foot cable to the bass so 30 feet total of cable "load" on my passive bass. I'm not too worried about it but just wondering what the BCA purists think about maximum cable length?

If anyone is interested, it's easy to rid yourself of all batteries, even in your active basses. I modified a tuner pedal to feed external power to the on board preamp. I power everything off a wallwart or power brick now. I haven't touched a battery in 4 years. PM if interested.

I have a Caline "Pure Sky" pedal (awesome transparent OD) and thought it might be cool to match it up for a minimalist two pedal "board" :cool:.

But, most of the time I just go with my Zoom B1on - 100 FX in one plus it's a decent tuner :D.

You'll never be as good as Tony Franklin, because you'll never be Tony Franklin. You can only be the best "you" you can be. So why wait?

I find different sounds inspire me to play differently, in different ways, to grow and further my musical knowledge, to play better; You might find that too.
