It seems everytime I see people post their amps on the site, I always see amazing rigs that I can't help drooling at. Ampegs, high-end GK's, Bergs, Marshalls, Edens, Epifanis, Markbass, and the list goes on. Well, I'm a 16 year old high school junior with no job (hopefully that will change soon) with this whopping powerhouse as a rig:

Crate 50W BT50 combo

Yep, painfully puny compared to the big rigs that are the norm at TB. So this is a thread where I want to see people post their crappy, small amps. No good rigs allowed. Post away. :D

Maybe you can rephrase the question: "what did you play when you were 16?" I bet the answer will be "a Crate 50w combo" or some equivalent.

i'll start:

A Fender 50w combo with stripped input jacks and a torn speaker.

until a week ago my only bass amp was a pignose... well yah I know its not really a bass amp but its louder than a sold body with no amp..... now I have a serious "pro"(if youve seen the CL thread you know) set up.....roland spirit bass-50 .. its nice to get a clean sound I can hear at reasionable levels. still kicking myself in the asp for losing the 200W ampeg tube amp years ago...

Ya know, everybody has to start somewhere. When I started playing bass in junior high, I was using the school's "house bass" and plugging that bass into my old Yamaha organ. My dad made me a cable with a 1/4" plug on one end and a set of RCAs on the other.

Just hang in there! Even flipping burgers will bring you a couple of dollars towards a good sized rig!:p

I started with a borrowed Fender Mustang bass and a cheap borrowed amp. Then I used my roomate's Crate 15W guitar amp for a while. Eventually I saved enough cash to buy a used Ampeg B15a and a weird Marshall 15" cab. Not enough power. I then started to get gigs and saved enough to trade in the B15a for a used Ampeg V4B (which I still own) and a used homemade 15" cabinet loaded with a nice EV driver. That set up with the two 15" cabs lasted me for many years.

I have always been one to work for what I wanted or needed (like my first car). Maybe that is why I hang on to all my old stuff so much. I worked very hard for my toys.

So no pictures to post, but I think you get the idea. It was very spartan for a long time...

Hah! I'm over 50 and I have a killer rig! Its a Crate BX 100! Twice the power of your puny rig!

Seriously. That's my amp. My band gigs all the time, but we run everything through the PA, so I could probably get by with a 50w. My amp only serves as my stage monitor, now.

In fact, I'm getting sick of lugging it, and I'm thinking of getting a smaller rig. I only need a good signal out and enough speaker to be a stage monitor. Your 50W would do.

I don't have an awesome rig...I have 5 awesome rigs! But a lot of hard work and long hours went into getting them. I still remember the days when all I could get was a cheesy little 70's solid state amp from Montgomery Ward. But I worked hard, didn't buy dumb stuff, and eventually I got a very used but great sounding SVT. And you will put together a sweet rig, too, if you want to. Just have to work for it and save your pennies.

When I was 16... had a Ibanez GSR 200 and a Fender Frontman 15B that I payed way way too much for...

I got my first "real" amp shortly after, a used Peavey 210TX Combo... 210 Watts into 2x10" with a horn. I used that for a long time till it died on me my sophomore year of college.
