Dingwall satin laguna Seca blue NG2 - Papa Smurf in tribute to my dad who passed away who I sometimes jokingly called Papa Smurf because he had a thing for buying just about anything that was blue. I have a white pearloid pickgaurd on the way for it they'll be more fitting

Fender sunburst jazz 5- "Old School" because well it's the most traditional solidbody bass I've had in a while. I have a tort gaurd on the way for that one.

Fender acoustic- grandpa. This is an apocalyptica reference. There was an episode where the subject of acoustic guitars came up and they referred to them as "oh yeah grandpas guitars"

I named my bass; I call it "my bass". I named my other bass too, I call that one "my bass".

Seriously, I don't even name pets. I mean, what would you call an elderly monkey with most of its fur burned off?

I heard my girlfriend telling a friend the burned up old monkey was called Tom; I didn't even know he had a name. Oh wait, we don't have a monkey. Hmmm.

Still working on names for my other basses. But this one was special in its the first non working bass I have bought and resurrected back into a very gigable bass. I had the name for it before I got it and had only seen pics of it.

just the ones I play regularly... My black B.C. rich Virgo is Betty... after Betty Page, My aquamarine pearl Jackson Kelly is Mabel...after a much beloved .45 1911 I used to own, and My favorite... a cherry Epi Eb-3 is Alexandra... middle name of my Daughter as well as her mother.

"LUCKY" my 1964 Hofner Violin 500/1 Bass. Named due to the fact that I always felt lucky in finding & owning it, & still feel the same way 31 years later. Plus it's my nickname

"MURRAY" my 2014 Fender American Standard Precision named after my Golden Labrador I still miss him. I think hand on heart the colour of this bass, was influenced by him as well.

"JACK" my 1986 Peavey Foundation Bass. This was more christened than named after a few to many shots of Mr.Daniels I stumbled and ended up spilling it over the headstock & neck.

I have been nicknaming my basses in recent years. here are the nicknames I have given my bass guitars.

My Schecter stiletto extreme 5 I've nicknamed mer-low. the name comes from merlot and low-end. I gave it that name because it was pointed out that the color of my schecter bass(which is black cherry by the way) looks like the color of wine. so I came up with that name to live up to that observation.

My Ibanez sr305b I've nicknamed mega man. the reason why I named that bass mega man is because the color of the bass(which is navy metallic) reminds me of mega man. and yes I am a retro gamer.

My Yamaha trbx305 I've nicknamed mr. beef. I named my yamaha bass mr. beef simply because of the beefy punchy sounds that it provides.

Some honorable mentions of my past bass guitars. the yamaha bb235 I've previously owned I've nicknamed james bond because the black finish with the white pickup guard and the precision pickup does resemble a tuxedo and I've had secret agent in mind. so I was actually thinking james bond. and that's pretty much why I've nicknamed the bass james bond. and the douglas sculptor 5-string bass I use to own was nicknamed dougie by my former bandmates simply because of the brand name.

Update. I've recently placed an order for the yamaha bb235 I use to own in the same color(black) and I am looking forward to it's arrival. I do miss that bass, so I decided to purchased it once again. I would still nickname it james bond. my other choice for a nickname for this bass would of been tuxedo mask cause when I've mentioned before on the bass resembling a tuxedo, I was also thinking of tuxedo mask from sailor moon(and yes I am an anime fan). but other than that, I would most likely will still nickname the bass james bond.

OK... same answer as every time this question gets asked. My answer is No, I don't. Basses are like cats. They won't come when you call them, so... why bother? This '94 Gretsch Broadkaster does sorta have a name, though. Assuming you consider "G****m POS; what the Hell's wrong this time?!?" a name. Sadly, it has...issues...

I haven't officially named any of my basses in the past. In January I placed a deposit to begin a Carl Thompson Semi-Frills Fretless 6. My only custom request was to have my wife's name engraved on the back of the headstock. (Sweet? Maybe. Think more along the lines of lessening my wife's reaction to another bass entering my house.)

I've named a few over the years, like my gold DiPinto Belvedere Standard, which was "Goldberg" after two close colleagues. I only have one named bass left, my 2003 MIA Jazz in Chrome Red/maple, which is "Jazzmine Jean" after my late mother-in-law, whose favorite color was bright red. I played it at a Relay for Life event while she was sick, which gives the name a little extra meaning.

Maybe I should resurrect "Goldberg," and call my Ruby Red G&L M-2500 "Rube Goldberg."
