Does anyone else play thumb-over?

On the fretting hand, I mean, of course.

I do about 98% of the time, I reckon because I started out on guitar ...

I do not have large hands, what I am told makes it even stranger, but I find it's how I learned/taught me, and it's baked-in.

Anyone else do this?

This might be too late judging on the number of pages but be prepared to be called out for your technique.

The only technique I have is using a teaspoon of olive juice in my martinis.

So if you are wunna them loathsome 6-string might-as-well-be-a-banjo players, y'know, that's called, "bending", no? And then repeated it's, "finger vibrato"?

For a fretless player this 'pushing/pulling' is considered a 'guitaresque' automatism,
because one can get the same tone on the A string by putting one's finger in the desired position. Also the thumb on top of the fretboard, could more ergonomicly be replaced by the pointing finger.

I don't do it. I was told, when I started playing, that it's a typical rock pose.
Have you ever seen a flamenco or classical guitarist play like that?
Or a cellist or violin player?
Why? Because it's not practical or ergonomic.
I was also told that it will also hinder you finding a proper intonation and glissando on fretless. So I never picked it up, just followed the advice of the guys with over a decade of music school.

And it's very limiting.
It's hard to spread your fingers with your thumb hooked over.

You mean like Darryl Jones is doing in the photo below? It's the standard rock bass technique; no worries.

So every single thing he does has a thumb hook over?
At some point "The Munch"is going to have to unhook his thumb off the E string to fret a G (root note) octave,tenth or eleventh extention.
The point is:He can't hook his thumb over on everything.
