Does Cables Matter for a Bass

SKIN EFFECT !!!!!!! :D

boy I can't wait for you to build me a bass - how long is your waiting list? put me down for 5

"Can't find what you really want? Me too- that's why I'm doing this.
As a player for 25 years I've had some great axes, but always had to change something. Finally, I decided I'd just build my own. Using the best components from around the world, I fiddled with it until I was happy.
Result? The VB-2, a hybrid based on the proven J style axes. With a fast, J-shaped carbon-reinforced maple neck, alder body, ultra-versatile preamp, high-tech stacked-coil pickups and the best hardware on the planet, you get all the good stuff but but none of the compromises of past designs. Amaze engineers with live sound that's so clear it sounds like a record. Want a penetrating, but sweet, solo bridge tone? Or get your 'Marcus' on? Maybe a fat, old-school thud? It's at your fingertips- active EQ with fully sweepable mids, coil switching, and a construction that really 'hears' your hands. Fingers, slap, pick, anything works, with awesome playability and feel. E-mail me for pics and more info at : "

Cables matter about as much as proper grammar in a forum thread!:D

:bassist: - my first thought as well! :)

Cables make a big difference. Especially if you don't have them.

sometimes the simple play is the best play of all....awesome :)

A speaker cable? That's pretty funny. Hope you don't play near a radio transmitter. :D

:D

So you're telling me I wasted my money on my getting my gold-plated Monster MIDI cable coated with extra gold?

Almost ftw......then you topped it with:

Life has been a lot simpler since I learned that the plural of anecdote is fact.

win! You are king of interwebz for today (at least in my $25-35 cable owning world!)

It truly bears reposting :

We're all eating the same popcorn at this point :D

I don't have the equipment to prove anything to you. Frankly, I don't care either.

But don't tell me I'm a liar, deaf, pursuaded by placebo, or whatever else you want to throw at me to disprove the fact that I did indeed hear a difference.

It seems to me that Mark is not questioning whether you heard a difference, but rather, your claim that whatever difference you did hear is attributable to skin effect. The proof he is looking for doesn't require any testing equipment. Just do the math and show us what frequencies would be affected by skin effect in your cables.

More ad hom attacks! Is this your MO?
Engage with the point put across as opposed to attempting to undermine the character of the person asserting something.

One more time and I'll have you charged in contempt of this thread.

Man you're asking for trouble with this. Here's the deal, and I've been deep into this. If you have a really good bass, a really good amp and really good speakers, then yes, you will (barring hearing damage) hear a difference in quality cables. But to hear the full effect it has to be all of your in-line cables and your speaker cables. You will get plenty of nay-sayers on here who will tell you they can't hear the difference. And there's no reason to disbelieve them, I'm sure they can't. But given that everything from bass to speakers can deliver and reproduce the difference, there is definitely a difference.
