It's possible that you could have a luthier reshape the neck profile for you. If you find a real good bass that it's worth doing to (IE one you really like), then I'd go that route.

Ibanez, Esp, and Fernandes all have pretty comfortable necks, the Ibanez is probably the better bet though.

why not buy a real nice fender and then get someone to reshape the neck for you, i have thought about doing it a few times myself,

thinking about having a 5 string fretless j reshaped and reboarded at the moment actually,

Based on Nino's previous comments, that's exactly what I'm considering. I've already sent an email to Mike Dolan.

i would really like to know how it turns out, as i dont know of any one that has had this done apart form the two guys that Nino mentioned.

the only real thing that gets me is wouldnt removing mass from the neck make it

A) a little less stable than before?

B) change the tone as there is now a less material in the neck?
