does anybody know? I see videos of him using fingers but other videos he looks like he is using a pick. is he actually using one or is he holding his fingers to mimic a picking style?

Does Jeff Matz of high on fire use a pick?

Taken from the liner notes of my copy of Luminiferous, he uses Dunlop picks. He may very well use his fingers too; I'm not sure.
