Does Metallica dislike writing/recording new material?

I have recently been thinking that as of this year, Metallica has released 9 studio albums within 30 years. Do you think they dislike the process of writing and recording? I have the impression that they get a bit ADD around the process of writing and recording.

I think they just have enough money and name sake they don't have to be rushed into a new album. Kill em all, Ride the lighting, Master of puppets, Garage days revisted and in justice for all spaced between 1 to 2 years apart per album release and the black album was started recording in 1990 about 2 years after And justice for all. That to me is a lot of work in a short period of time.

Having watched some of the available footage of them going through the recording process, the impression I get is that the band is always under a ridiculous amount of pressure when it comes to recording new stuff & delivering the goods. This isn't your typical rock band. I doubt it's a very enjoyable thing to put yourself through.

I'd agree with this. Every album since the Black album has been a letdown in critics and fans eyes (for the most part). I can't imagine the pressure of having to live up to the expectations that people have for the band.

Not every band comes out with a new album once a year. I honestly think the amount of music they out out is pretty suiting when you think about all theyve been through over the years and the amount of time they have toured. They are road dogs for sure. I like the fact that bands like Metallica and Tool take a while between albums, it gives them all a chance to grow and back up a little bit so when they come back to the studio to do an album its not the same exact thing they last released. I mean, I like AC/DC, but I LOVE Tool! And I dont want to hear the same album over again when they come out with a new one. And although I havent always agreed with what Metallica has done over the years, I have very much enjoyed and have been inspired but a lot of their stuff. But they have made progressions because of the time they took and of the things they went through. Its about the journey and process, growing and mistakes, pain and triumph. And they are still together doing their thing. Now I think that is highly commendable. The last thing I think about is when are these guys going to drop another album, man its been like 3 years......

There's truth to that statement for sure, but is there any band that hasn't happened to that has been around more than, say, 10 years? While they can certainly write some good tunes still, the magic of the right scene happening, them being at the right age etc...was a window in time that can't be duplicated. While I'm not as big a fan of their more recent stuff either, even if they did release something as good as MOP today, it wouldn't have the same impact.

Well.. Don't forget they have been ''out of business'' for about 2 / 2½ years when Jason left and they were busy with there documentary, ''Some kind of monster''.

And a world tour isn't done in 6 months either ;)

Rammstein only released 6 albums in the period 1995 - 2009. I don't count the last one, which was released in 2011, since it has the old songs on it as a promotion of their ''Made In Germany'' tour.

So, they now exist 19 years and they only released 6 studio albums.. Not much either, though a tour of them takes up to 2 years. They have a ''schedule'' of 6 weeks performing on stage, then rest 4 weeks and they do this till they are done. (I almost forgot that they take some rest in summer as well and wait for the festivals :p )

Clif Burton wrote most of the riffs in the early days (when Clif was still alive ofcourse) according to Kirk... They're not particularly original anymore, and every cries about how much each album after X album has sucked so much harder than Y album. So why bother? They could get on stage and take a poop and everyone would still pay for tickets.

When Black came out, I heard James and Lars say 'If our fans weren't willing to grow with us then it's too bad. Oh well,see ya.'

I think it's a Billy Joel kind of thing....He stopped recording new material years ago,saying out-right, I have nothing new in me and I'm not putting out uninspired garbage.

If they ain't feelin' it....No new stuff.

BTW...I love St.Anger...All of it.:eyebrow:
