Does power corrupt?

Just to clarify again, his issue is not power at all. In order to control feedback on an ABG, he has turned down the preamp on his instrument almost completely. As a result, the very low level signal going into his amp is not capable of driving the power section of the amp to anywhere near full output. As was mentioned by a few others (and myself earlier), this is a pure EQ issue period (i.e., feedback control of a wonky ABG). Once he fixes his feedback issue by either learning a bit more about the EQ on his current amp, or getting a 'DB oriented' external EQ with a narrow band notch type filter, he can turn up again and all will be well.

I would again suggest that all who are talking about 'power' go back and read the initial post. The only thing that will happen for the OP if he gets an amp with more power is... well.... nothing.

True! Got off on that tangent. Peace yall!

I get it. I found a killer deal on a used US SVT6-it has a more refined eq that should let me selectively get at that 350Hz area (and it has gobs of power-just for %&*#s and giggles:D).
The onboard eq on the ABG's pre is very limited (3 band) and I already messed with that, having had to attenuate the mids and the bass-blindly, since I don't know where those controls are centered or how wide their Q is. More experimenting to come, but I grok in fullness that it's an eq thing irrespective of power.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with digging in if you like that tone. Efficiency Schmefficiency! You shouldn't have to rip the strings off the bass, but a little digging in sounds really cool at times, especially on a good funk tune.

+1

Digging in correctly shouldn't cause hand problems and fits certain musical situations rather well.

That said, I do see the point that you shouldn't have to dig in to maintain adequate volume.
