That's an interesting perspective. Could you perhaps tell us who you think you are stealing from when you use cracked software that you haven't paid for?
I'm not stealing from anyone, actually even refering to piracy as theft is complete crap and it's a false statement.

Theft means that your taking something thats tangible, for instance if I took your car, THATS THEFT.
The reason being is your losing something thats tangible. Data on the other hand is NOT tangible, Im not taking it away from someone I'm only making copies for my own use.

Now your going to argue "well isn't the loss of money tangible?"

Yes, yes it is. However seeing how there was no guarantee that I would have bought the software in the first place (I could have installed a legit copy of XP and hacked it) MS would still have never gotten my 200 bucks for Windows 7 in the first place.

Which brings me to my next argument.
I currently have 3 PC's in my house If I were to do as the EULA (End User License Agreement) says, I would have to purchase 3, count them, 3 copies of Windows, 1 copy of 7 $200.00 and two copies of XP pro another $400.00 for both copies. That 600 bucks I just spent could be used to pay other things, hell I could nearly BUILD another PC with that.
I don't know about you but that money could be better spent else where.

Which brings me to yet another argument. What exactly are you buying when you buy a copy of Windows?

Well you buy that packaging (I don't need that) You also buy any documentation for the software (I don't need that either) You pay for the media that the OS is on (not needed) What you DON'T pay for is the actual software.
What you DO pay for is the PRIVILEGE to install said software (in this case Windows) on ONE device, no more. If that single disk is installed on multiple devices your are PIRATING.

This is ********!!! When was the last time you ever purchased anything and was told that you don't actually own it? Or was told how you could use it?

Since this is a bass forum I'll put it like this. Imagine you just bought a gorgeous bass, everything you could need in a bass, but the music store tells you it's not really yours you only pay for the privilege to use it. Not only that but they also tell you how and when your allowed to use it.

Would you still buy that bass? I'm guessing not.
You would walk right out of the store and take your business elsewhere. This is what software companies do everyday.

So yes I pirate, and no I have no problem with it.

Sounds like the Nigerian national anthem to me. I know a friend who fell hard for this kind of tripe. Don't buy into it...the "My Shipping Agent" part is a tip off...ever meet a "Shipping Agent"? Ever meet some one who HAD a "Shipping Agent"? BTW? the FBI and the local Police will want to hear about it, although they're powerless to deal with it.

I use a shipping agent all the time. He does my packing and dispatching, however, anyone who buys anything from me, deals with me directly - I deal with the shipping agent and I have lot's of feedback, an e-mail I can be reached at, etc...

You are a thief, plain and simple. If you don't like the purchase rules that come with the software, then you have 2 options:

1. Don't buy it.
2. Buy a different product.

By the way, your logic is so flawed that it's not worth the effort to rebutt any of it.

You are a thief, plain and simple.
How am I a thief? I have stolen nothing. The original copy still exists I have only copied it.
If I made an exact 1:1 copy of your car would you still call me a theif even though you still have your car? Probably not.

If you don't like the purchase rules that come with the software, then you have 2 options:

or 3 maybe it's time the rules were changed. Seeing how they only benefit the software company and are WRITTEN TO BONE US.
By the way, your logic is so flawed that it's not worth the effort to rebutt any of it.
Oh yes the typical retort of a person who believes the hype and never stops to think for themselves.
If my logic is so flawed sir then why not take time to rebut the bigger flaws. No you sit there in your self righteousness and call me a thief when you clearly understand nothing about the subject except what Fox news tells you what to think.

Therefore I want you to consider it sold by withdrawing the advert from the classified site. Note that you will not be responsible for shipping and handling. My shipping company will send a pick up agent on my behalf to your location for pick up after payment has been arranged.

I received email containing the quoted phrases for an amp listed at CL in December.

I first have to assume that by virtue of the OP posting on TB, that he was selling bass gear on CL. If that is indeed true, then I offer this question:

If she (the buyer) is indeed deaf as purported, what the hell is she doing buying bass gear?

I don't know about you, but in my 38 years of playing bass, never once have I run into a deaf woman bass player.

(It cracks me up every time I read those scam e-mail replies from some dude in Nigeria.......in this case saying he is a deaf woman. Are they really that stupid to think that we are that stupid?)

Yes, it is theft. You are stealing the salary from the developers of the software. You are stealing profits from the company that develops the software. You are stealing from the shareholders of the company. Jobs will be lost because the software doesn't make enough money to pay all the people involved in the creation of that software.

And if you think something is too expensive, that does not make it ok to steal it.

Self-justification is so easy. But please don't delude yourself that your actions are in any way justifiable, or ethical. They aren't. And this sort of ill-considered and arrogant attempt to pretend that they are is, quite honestly, just nauseating.

To respond to your first point - as the second half of your post is so plain dumb that it merits no response whatsover - just suppose everybody did the same as you and nobody gave Microsoft any money for their copy of Windows. What would happen?

Here's an experiment for you. Take a laptop into a store with you. Open up a boxed piece of software and start installing it on your machine. When questioned, say "I'm not doing anything wrong, because I'm going to leave the software back on the shelf when I'm done, so I'm not depriving anyone else of it. I'm just making a copy for my own use." Let us know what happens.

Those of us who paid for a copy of any software you pirated paid more than we would otherwise have needed to, because we're are paying for your copy too, and you've paid nothing. You're a cheap, dishonest, freeloading parasite with zero thought for the consequences of your actions on other people and clearly no moral conscience at all when it comes to grabbing other people's property and using it for yourself without paying a dime.

Please note that this post of your that I quoted has been reported and will be considered in conjunction with your other comments elsewhere on the forum related to this. I'm sure my colleagues here on the moderation and admin teams will respond in an appropriate way.

to some extent on cl when selling things, if i have a feeling a e-mail is a scam, a few times I've been able to google search the name of person responding to ad and found items about said name being used before in scam. like when i got scam e'mail from a Gerald Darr, looked fishy, googled name and sure enough someone had documented this bastard pulling same trick before. Doesn't always work but sometimes it does.

I'm not stealing from anyone, actually even refering to piracy as theft is complete crap and it's a false statement.

Err... No. It's theft, pure and simple. I'm one of those software developers that you seem to think should write software simply for the privilege of enjoying ourselves at work. You're correct - we never sell anything tangible. We sell *licences* to use our software, and all licences come with privileges and restrictions.

You claim you're not taking anything away from anyone. Well, last year I lost over $7,000 to someone who stole my software. That's almost two months salary to us; money that should be going to paying my mortgage, feeding the kids and wife, fueling the car and paying for bass guitars. Yes, we know who did it, and action is being taken by the appropriate people, but it's unlikely that we'll see that money.

We don't like thieves. Full stop.

What you DON'T pay for is the actual software.
What you DO pay for is the PRIVILEGE to install said software (in this case Windows) on ONE device, no more. If that single disk is installed on multiple devices your are PIRATING.
Absolutely. Sounds like you're getting it... You're a PIRATE. In other words, a THIEF.

This is ********!!! When was the last time you ever purchased anything and was told that you don't actually own it? Or was told how you could use it?
Ever had photographs taken by a professional photographer (say, for a wedding)? *YOU* don't own them. The photographer owns full copyright, and one common restriction is that you can't make copies.

Ever purchased a house? Unless you paid cash, you don't own it until you pay the mortgage off, and there are often restrictions on what you can do with it, set by the local city and home owners associations. They can stipulate the number of animals you can keep in it, the number of cars on the drive, whether you can fence it in or not...

Since this is a bass forum I'll put it like this. Imagine you just bought a gorgeous bass, everything you could need in a bass, but the music store tells you it's not really yours you only pay for the privilege to use it. Not only that but they also tell you how and when your allowed to use it.

Stupid analogy. It's more appropriate to say you went to Fender and asked to license a Fender Stratocaster. Once they stop laughing, they'll want to know why; how many you intend to build and sell; where you're going to sell them; why it won't compete with their products; and who else are you licensing guitars from. And they'll still say No. When you try it anyway, they'll send the heavyweight lawyers over.

You sound like a wonderful person to know. Not.

+1

Couldn't have stated that better myself.

That's another reason to go with Apple bro. I bought Snow Leopard and installed it on all (4) of my families macs no problem. And it was only like $80.

Buying software from the little guys is important but Microsoft won't miss a couple dollars. There software is licensed to practically every PC out there.

Edit. I actually think piracy can be a good thing. I've downloaded a bunch of music to see if I like the genre or band and then bought a box set of it or a cd or whatever.

The analogy that "it's just like copying a car" is complete ******** and you know it. A program isn't a car.
The fact is, someone busted their ass writing the program that you're STEALING and you can't see that. What makes you think it's your right to have something for free if someone doesn't want to give it to you for free? Oh yeah, probably because your mommy and daddy still hand things over to you on a silver platter, and your spoiled ass can't understand that not everyone is working for you.

Go **** yourself.
