Does this make me look heavy?

10 pounds is my limit. I will give an estimate weight, if buyer wants a 100% accurate weight then he/she will need to look somewhere else. I am not in the business of selling basses so I don't have to be condescend to the picky buyers.

This is a great scale.. if you plan to sell your basses or if weight matters.. this scale is the best bang for the buck.. It is pretty accurate too. All of my basses are under 10lbs.. I said 10lbs as a limit but I prefer under 10. My heaviest bass is 9.8.. and that is my Cirrus 6 everything else is 9.7 or under I will not buy a bass heavier than that, in fact i just sold one because it was 11.6 lbs. My 78 Jazz is 11.1 and the only reason I still own it is because it was my first real bass.

I'm fine with a rather heavy bass. My ray is pretty heavy and I take it everywhere. In fact, I kind of find a heavier bass more comfortable when playing. Don't know why. The only pain with heavy basses for me is carrying them around... ugh

I've noticed that Sweetwater Music lists the weight of their instruments on their website. Evidently they seem to recognize that it matters, at least to some people.

FWIW, my heaviest Basses are Stingrays which weigh in at 10 lbs, or so. That's where I would draw the line.
(I doubt that there are very many Stingrays that weigh less than 10 lbs.)

I have back issues ... sometimes standing for 30 minutes with my lightest 5 er .. which is 9.3 lbs if I remember correctly... becomes problematic.. Balance is important as well.. but weight is important and it is just ... odd to me to see some people who seem to think that not wanting a bass that is too heavy is somehow a measure of ones virility or something.. weird that...

I remember back in the day with my 78 Jazz .. where by the third 45 minute set .. I was DONE after 30 minutes ... I'd get that knot in my left shoulder ... Of course some of that was probably technique because I was a total noob and had no idea about ergonomics.. and I probably used to press way too hard on the strings.. but...

My USA SUB 5 weighs in at 9.5 lb, it sounds right and I am 100% pleased with it

I'm not looking in the basses classifieds these days, but if I were, I wouldn't have a weight limit for a bass I love. I don't think any of mine are much past 9lbs, and I'm happy about that, but I could handle whatever. I don't play three hour gigs, and if I do in the future, I'll just play one of my other ones.

My bathroom scales simply aren't good enough to weigh my guitars & basses. I tried this evening & they call came in at 10 lbs.
With the scales set to KG, they all weighed in at 4.1 kg. DOH!

I guess I will have to borrow some scales if I want to get more accurate readings.

Bathroom scales are atrociously inaccurate. Any time someone says "X.X lb. by the bathroom scale" in a sale listing I automatically assume the bass is at 1-1.5 lb. heavier

Love that question. Selling close to 200 basses between here, eBay, CL and Reverb, no one who as ever asked the question actually bought it. Maybe a special prize is awarded to the first person who asks?

If you would include the weight in your ad in the first place, we wouldn't have to ask.

I have a USA SUB 4 String that may weigh a little less than 10 lbs, same color as yours. The Poplar bodies probably weigh a little less than the Ash bodies. I'm 100% pleased with mine, as well.

Mine was an anomaly being that light which is totally the reason I bought it. I had another SUB 5 a few years back and it was 11ish. Great basses though, I don't hear any difference Poplar vs. Ash

Somewhat important. I won't necessarily say no to the One if she's plus size. My '88 L-2000 is 12 lbs, but has tremendous sound. Of course, a 15-20 pound bass doesn't get a second look.

Weight doesn't bother me, in fact the heavier the better... I like a bass that feels solid but also ergonomic to the hands...

I think my SB-CB is 13 pounds.

As long as a bass isn't ridiculously heavy (15+ lbs), I never even give the weight a second thought.

If I had a back, shoulder, or neck injury, I'm sure that would change my thought process.

I would love to know which of my instruments is heaviest, a precursor to deciding which ones to sell first.
On the other hand, I don't really want to shell out $20 for a postal style scale that I will basically use once.



Maybe I can carry them into the supermarket scales w/o anyone noticing.
