Does this reverb pedal exist?

OP, sorry to say, your single pedal exists in just one place:

When you turn the Cathedral off, the reverberation stops immediately. Some other pedals will let the reverb decay while not adding new 'verb to the signal. The Digitech Polara even has a 'tails' switch with which you can select either option.

I would imagine that if I'd go from 'ambient mode' (on) to 'normal bass' (off) mode, the transition is a bit abrupt.
What's your experience with the Cath'? :)

Ahhhh, gotcha! Hrm. I wonder if the Infinite button could be modded to work as a momentary bypass that doesn't turn the effect off, but just bypasses so as to produce that effect. I'd go for a mod like that personally.

As for the pedal itself...I love it. It gets put to work mainly on my keyboard synths & guitar, but it's got all the depth for cavernous bass reverberation; plus, it's got enough (intuitive) control that I prefer using it over my studio reverb plugins a lot of times. It does distant, dark, shimmery, full, deep, & more, and the digital delay with filter is a huge bonus by itself. I guess you could say I like it :D

I suppose it'd be some extra $ and real estate, but could be useful enough to be well worth it: an A/B-Y switch pedal could create the tailing effect by bypassing the pedal entirely after hitting a note on it. And, of course, would work with any number of pedals in that chain.

Haha! I guess you're right :)

I think I'll just go for the best compromise... I'm not convinced by multi-fx or the overall quality of the Digiverb. The Cathedral might be the best option, hopefully I can live without the tails. Still, getting all these suggestions is really useful!

I plan on using it on guitar, fretless and double bass too! For everything from tasteful ambience to huge spacious reverbs to shoegaze-y reverse reverbs.

Yeah, that'd be nice mod. Sort of an 'input to verb-kill' while the dry-through is still active.

Using an ABY or LS-2 is going to be tricky. First, the signal needs to be split in two. One side is completely dry, the other goes through a killswitch and the Cath'. Then you'd need an LS-2 that combines these two signals to one mono output. But, then the dry/wet-balance is off. So you'd need to set the Cath' to 100% wet and control the balance on the LS-2 :meh:
At that point you might as throw another 'verb pedal on the board. Between the two 'verbs, there's probably something that'll be adequate.

I'll think I'll try to find a second hand Cath' and see how much the no-tails bug me.

The TC HoF does have a blend, it's just called effects level.
From the manual:

"FX LEVEL knob – Effect level control.
Use the FX LEVEL knob to control the level of the reverb. The direct, unprocessed signal is always passed at the original level (unity gain). Only the level of the reverb is changed when turning the FX LEVEL knob."

It does have a kill-dry dip-switch on the inside.

Oh, but it does exist, the Big Sky and the Space/H9 do everything on the wish list. So the answer to the OP original question "Does this reverb pedal exist" is yes. But if a cheap pedal is needed, then perhaps that is a different question.

The hardwire r
Must have:
- decent hall, room and plate sounds
- must do big ambient sounds well
- a blend/mix knob (to go 100% wet)
- reverse reverb
- tails
- not too big price tag

Is it me, or does this pedal simply not exist? I didn't think my requirements were that outrageous, but...

Boss RV-2 & RV-5 - no blend
Boss RV-3 - no decent sounding hall, although a legend in its own right
Digitech/Hardwire RV-7 & Polara & DigiVerb - no blend
Digitech Supernatural - no hall or room
EHX Holy Grail Max & Cathedral - no tails
Line6 M5 - no reverse, big, won't work with a PP2+, would prefer a dedicated pedal, I have bad experiences with digital multi-FX
Marshall RF-1 - no blend
Mooer ShimVerb & Sky Verb - no tails
Mooer ShimVerb Pro - don't care about shimmer, big, small knobs, unsure about quality
Soundblox 2 Dimension Reverb - too expensive, still no reverse, doesn't look sturdy at all
TC Electronic Hall of Fame - no blend
TC Electronic T2 - no normal hall or room

Anyone else have any suggestions?
I'm thinking about dropping the tails requirement and going with the EHX Cathedral which perfect for all of the other stuff...

the hardwire rv-7 does ALL these things well. effects level = blend, trails switch is under the footswitch, cool reverse and i got mine used for $50.

As a fan of reverbs I think you should consider getting two instead of trying to find one that'll do everything. The closets I've found that does most of the things you want is the m5. But for me reverb can mean drastically different sounds. For example I think the modulated reverb on the Hardwire rv-7 is a great "normal reverb" for bass. But for crazy ambient stuff the particleverb or octiverb on the m5 or the supernatural would be better. dofferent reverbs are better for different sounds. So aside from trying to find one that does everything and having to bend down to tweak the settings all the time, why not just get two

Seems like the race-bike adage applies here:

A - fast
B - light
C - inexpensive

You can only have two:

Pick two ... A+B or B+C or A+C

However, you have A, B, C, D, E and F to choose from, and you can't have them all.

There are switcher pedals such as Wounded Paw's blender that would allow you to have the blend and trails on a favoured reverb that does not have these features itself. However, that adds expense and takes up yet more board real estate.

Split a signal before the verb and use a blender pedal to mix it afterwards...

Digitech XP400
Nice one! Kind of a special case though, with all presets and no knobs.

As far as funcionality is concerned, it sure acts and sounds like a blend. However, it looks like it will never go past 50% blend as the original signal is always at unity.

On another note, good luck on your search for a unicorn.
Thanks. I actually saw one yesterday, but I let it go because it didn't have a tail.

Nice suggestions for a future me with a larger budget :)

Single pedal, but not boss sized....TC Nova Reverb. meets all your requirements.
No reverse.

Are you sure about the blend?
The reverse is always 100% wet, but otherwise 'level' is just the reverb level.

If you're on Room and you turn the level past 12 o'clock, does it turn down the dry? If you keep turning, will it remove the dry completely?

Good idea. The Cathedral has everything except for the tails, so going that route at least I have all the sounds I want. I might get a RV-7 or Supernatural later as an 'add on'.

If there's one requirement I need to ditch, then it'd be the tails-thing.

That's a good idea too. PB estate is not really a problem. I'll just get a 'verb pedal and see how things go from there.
